SIA Cabin Crew Interview – How Long For The Medical Review

Before I give my notes on the sia cabin crew interviewThe medical review, I would like to thank all my students who did the survey…

As promised I have prepared the gifts for you, but before I can send them out, I am trying to gather all the request for the extra bonus that you all requested, so.. do bear with me for a while, once I sort them out, I will send them over to you. =)

Ok ok.. based on the survey… I realize that I have more successful students who made it as a crew that I initially thought I had.. keke.. just that some of you never inform me huh ? So… I am really nearing my 100 cabin crew mark before the end of the year =P

But based on some of the questions, I realize that most cabin crew hopeful who made it after the medical had this question… the long and torturing wait for the results.

Ok ok, here is how the medical wait goes…

Give yourself a month for the wait, if you did not receive a rejection from the company within a month, then.. you are most likely given a slot as a SIA Cabin Crew.

Letter = Rejection

Call = You pass.

Its as simple as that…

Sometimes, some hopefuls will receive a call early because of your “date available”. The earlier you put in your date available, the faster you’ll get a call if you pass your medical.

You see, the training slots are random, meaning, they’ll try to slot you in whichever available slots that is open based on your date available. I suspect that the training classes were not plan in advance, so.. they couldn’t call you in advance to let you now when your training will start.

meaning, if you have certs pending, or if you put your date available like 3 or 2 months later, you most likely will not get a call from them until its near your “date available”.

So.. if you have certificate pending to be summited to them,  you still won’t get a call until all your documents is in place and they can process your training dates.

What I am trying to say is.. don’t get too stress or nervous… thinking about your medical review results. Use the letter as a guage… and if you don’t receive anything within 2 weeks.. you are safe.. 3 weeks.. even safer.. and if until a month later you have not got a rejection letter, then.. most likely your application is pending training dates.. which.. they will call you once its near.

Hope this help solve a lot of misery and impatience… I know too.. because… I waited for a month before I got a call.. and another of my very first student.. waited 6 weeks for the call.. =)

Good Luck !

  1. Hello there,

I have a question for you. I go through your blog everyday & find it very helpful. but the problem with me is i hail from India and would be going in for my SIA interview this coming saturday. I think they don’t usually conduct interviews in India but maybe this is the first time in a long time and I’m really looking forward to get through my Interview. well since i mentioned that i come from India, there is no way i can afford your manual in a very short period of time. And i would seriously like your help, maybe some guidance and tips as to how to get through the first round of interview. The do’s and don’ts. please please help me.Im very nervous and also did’nt know how best to communicate with you. I’d be waiting for your reply as soon as possible..

    • the manual is digital, you should be able to dl immediately after transaction. =)

There a re a lot of tips from the blog you can use to prepare yourself dear =), I am sure, even in this blog… the free information and tips is even more than any other site you can find.. or even some other paid products.. =)

  2. Hi Ms Kristine,

Thank you for your informative site.

I am aspired to be part of the SIA family.
However, I am current having a day job and wonder which phase that I am able to tender my resignation from my current job after the interview and medical checkup.

What is the appropriate date to write on the application form if my current employment required a month notice.

    Thank you so very much.

    Jun

    • hey my dear,

usually, you will be informed 1 month before your training. Or if you want to play safe, you can just put in date available as ” immediately, but require 1 month notice to tender resignation”. =) its all words my dear, all you need is just a little info to give you that better explanition. =)

  3. Thnx Kris for prompt reply.I just wanted to know if i can put red lip colour for the first round cause it really looks good on me but i’m wondering if its too loud.Or should i go for neutral colours like coral and bronze.I’m 23 and want appropriate makeup which will stand out. Also should i wear blazer or not?I heard they remove blazer and scarf. Please answer.Love-Angel.

  4. Hi krstine,
I have tried to purchase the manual like 3 times through my debit card, but its shows my card invalid.. MY card is valid with sufficient amount. I am not able to understand iwhy is the transaction showing your “debit card is invalid.

Can you please let me know as soon as possible, my interview is on 28th aug:( and im hoping to get a chance to review your manual.
    Ann

  5. Hi Kristine,
the exact error that shows when i try click on r0″eview and continue” is as :::”The card you entered cannot be used for this payment. Please enter a different credit or debit card number”.

    Please help.

    Thanks
    Ann

  6. Hi Ann,

I am very keen to purchase your manual however I have gone for an interview once 2 years ago however, I did not even pass the the very first round. I am very concern that even with effective manual, I might not be able to pass the first round and how is this going to assist me.

In addition, I have been in the corporate society for 3 years and how would this impact my chances to be selected?

I really appreciate if you could assist me? =)

    Cheers
    Ling

  7. My dearest apologies,

The addressee was meant to attention to you, Kristine.

But i have made a mistake here. I am so sorry… opps

  8. Hi Kristine!

I went for my medical on 10 august and received a call from SIA asking if I went for checkup already 2 days later. During the medical checkup, the doctor told me that she felt that both my breast were abit lumpy so i was asked to do an additional ultrasound scan for my breasts. Just 2 days ago, I received letter from SIA that my application was unsuccessful. I was worried about my own health so i went to a specialist for another round of checkup myself. I got the results already, and my breasts are perfectly fine, including my lungs everything.
So i wonder if anything went wrong with my report at the medical centre, because none of my friends got call from SIA asking if they went for checkup or not, they received calls informing them that they’ve passed the medical etc.

Will it be because of some other reasons that i failed instead of my medical?

If not, will i be able to appeal with the attachment of the specialist report stating that there’s nothing wrong with my health?

    Thanks
    Yan

    • ur case happens to be like mine… except mine was an old ankle injury which led me to a downgrade… so they wanted a letter one why i downgraded… so they got the letter and rejected me in a week… i went to see my specialist and they say my current condition of my leg is fine for flying… I even jog, run and walk long distances without any problem at all… my letter was dated in 2005… i tried emailing them for an appeal without any respond at all… but this is just my guess on my rejection… i guess they rejected me based on this injury…

during the check up, i asked the doc if i’m fine… she said i’m perfectly ok… so there’s no other reason for her to fail me other than this report…

anyone knows a way to get around this?

      • Hey. this could be a way long commented post. But I’d love to know what email address did you appeal to Singapore Airlines? I’m rather in the same situation as you right now.

        Thank you

      • Jerome,

they usually dun attend to appeals..

    • Hey dear. I went for the check up 2 weeks ago but have not receive any call.. like ♥ doc found my breast lumpy so had to go for u/s. But unfortunately I signed a letter that I’m not entitled to know the result eventhough I paid $136 for it. Looking at you I guess Im giving up hope to get positive call from them and proceed to go for further study instead. It is saddening but I can’t waste anymore time.. oh well.. just sharing… and I’m sure my breast is ok…

      • Hey dear, i had the totally same experience as you. It would be quite frustating if i did not get in this round due to lumpy boobs. I even look at the ultra scanning screen i don’t see anything as well. May i know did you get accepted in the end? I just waiting for luck now. OMG

  9. Hi there,
just wanna ask what they check fir the medical n seems a lot ppl have failed this part.
let say my bmi is 18, I just done my medical check, everything is ok. I have no any injury before. Does that mean I’m ok ?

  10. Hi Kristine, I have gone for my medical last Wednesday (10th) after going through all stages on the Nov 6 interview. I have yet to receive a call from them yet. I went for the medical actually on the 9th, was told by nurse everything was normal except BP as I was anxious, and after repeated tests asked to come down the next day.

Again high and was going to be sent to specialist, but I asked for one more try and the BP came down to 115/84 and the nurse smiled and told me okay no need to see specialist anymore and that I can go. But I have yet to get a call nor letter. My last exam is on the 1st, and I did say I will be available after. This wait is killing me, should there be any problems?

    • Dear…

you will need to summit your certification before you can be confirm… =)

so.. for you.. as long as there is no letter.. its good news..

  11. thanks! she did write down my last date of exam. i actually don’t need the cert cos i’m already qualified. hope i get the call soon cause i will like to start asap.

  12. if asked to see specialist, most likely to fail medical?

    • depends on what specialist you are refer to dear.. but.. yes… most likely..

      • but i beg to differ,,, if ur specialist can certify you fit and u can fly, there’s a chance u can fly… why? coz specialist are actually in terms higher ranking than the GP u get in shenton… they can only read the memo and follow what the specialist said… afterall, a specialist is more specialised in his field and know what he/she’s saying compare to a GP whose knowledge is on the surface… charlyn, just don’t give up… just tell your specialist why u see him… and get a memo stating u are fit to fly… they gave u a chance to see a specialist mean they still want you… if they do not want you, they will not even ask u to see one and most likley fail u on the spot…

      • Thanks dear… =)

        well.. I never did say its 100% fail… did I ? =P

Sometimes.. its not up to us to decide no matter how fair or how unfair we think it is.

and No.. they don’t fail you on the spot for medical… your review will be summitted based on what the GP find and recommend. So here is the big problem, even after visiting the specialist… are they asking you to summit the pending report back to them ? If no… then.. how are they going to know what the specialist says ?

Sometimes, they ask to see a specialist due to health reason which they want you to confirm for the benefit of your health and safety in your life.. and yes.. they’ll note it down in their own gp findings and summit the report to process your application. So… how high a chance do you get ?

Unless of cos, they ask you to do a follow up back to the company, then only you stand a slight chance on securing the job.

Like I say.. sometimes.. its not up to what we think or wants or how fair things should be.. its procedures and regulations. and if you look from your personal point of view, yes, it does makes sense and only fair things should go your way.. but on a company stand.. if 20 cases happen for every interview.. it means they have to deal with 20 cases or appeal in every interview.. which again.. will be unfair for the company.

Sorry if I sounded too straight forward, and I never meant to ask anyone to give up hope or anything.. after all, charlyn has not receive any news as today after her medical, so.. there is still chance.

    • hi did you go to the recent interview on the 6th? why did they only ask you to see the specialist now?

  13. erm.. yup. i went for the interview on the 6th. was asked to see kidney specialist. doc said everything is perfectly normal. maybe i didnt drink enough water for the urine test. spent about $400 bucks. ouch… hahaha.

now, I am still waiting for the call. I just gotten my exam results and I am like desperate to start working and earn $$ for my mama. I just hope that I can get news from SIA so that I can move on.

I am wondering if they are likely to ignore me? how long should i possibly be waiting before i can accept another job offer?

  14. and thank you all very much for the kindest information. =))

  15. i am rejected. =((

since is after medical that i am rejected. does it mean that i shouldnt try again?
but the doc from mount e say i am perfectly normal. =((

    • I am sorry that this has happen..

      Like I say dear,

sometimes, its not up to us to decide if its fair or not despite the medical test results being normal..

But dear, it does not mean you shouldn’t try again.. you can always try again since everything is normal.

    • hey don;t give up! i didn’t give up! i got my specialist letter, appealed and now i’m gonna start training next month :D:D:D what i did was i got my specialist letter, mail it to them with everything in there to prove you are fine… and wait for their reply…. gd luck!

      • =)

      • Hi Clay,
can I ask the process of your appeal?
1)Which hospital did you go to?(must it be affliated to SIA?)
        2) Do you only do medical check up for the area you failed?
        3) how did you send the test results to SIA?

thank you for your time and patience, look forward to your reply!

  16. charlyn, i’m sorry to hear your news… but nonetheless, dun give up yeah!! another recruitment is on the way 😀

  17. Hey Kristine, I got through everything on Nov 6th on my first try up till the Medical. With the help of your site, no less =)

However, as you can probably guess, I received a letter about one and a half weeks after the medical. I personally felt that I did quite well during the debates, introductions, etc, in the first several rounds (and even received positive feedback from one of the interviewers in round 4) and was never in any real danger of failing the interview, so you could say I was indeed very surprised when I received the letter.

My question is, does SIA do a history check for their applicants?

Say, if i had a less-than-stellar record in my previous job or in NS, would this affect me? Of course, none of this information is actually told to them or anything… For them to find out, they’d have to do some serious digging on their own. Do they actually bother to go through all of that?

Thanks a lot Kristine. This information will affect whether or not I try for subsequent interviews. =)

    • hi dear,

I am sorry to have hear about the “letter”…

Well, the rejection is based on the medical. not anything else.. and i am sure you perform to the highest standard in your interview to have made it all the way through…

As for record, unless it is “criminal”, there is no way to find out because no resume was summited.. so.. no “referencing call” can be referred to. I would say, no.. they dun go through all that for every applicants.. and if they do.. its only random.

I know I din have that “bg” checks based on the feedbacks from my ex ex company though.

      hope this helps.

    • hey criz,

i feel you, i was in the same boat as you for september’s intake. Maybe you could try asking them what was the health issue that led you to be eliminated? i tried mine, but they kept mummed about it coz it’s “confidential”. so just try you never know… anyway don’t give up, but i heard after medical rejections, do not every mention that at all in an rounds, coz once in any round they find out u get rejected due to medical, you’re out… that’s my personal testimonial, sometimes it doesn’t really pay to be very honest if u want this job badly, that’s my 2 cents worth… 🙂

      • Hey Clay and Kristine,

Thanks a lot for replying. I’m actually a PES C in NS. Do you think this affected SIA’s decision on whether or not they did a thorough background check on me, having stood out from the rest of the PES A’s and PES B’s?

And I’m definitely not a ‘criminal’ by any means, but SIA being government related and all, might they have just had access to that information?

My dad seems to insist that it was due to my ‘bad’ track record in NS that I failed the interviews.

And also, I really wanted to speak to them, but they won’t even reply to my emails. Even after I called them up, they said they refused to entertain phone calls, so I requested that someone read the emails I’d sent and they agreed. They took down my name, but I haven’t heard from them since.

      • Tks Clay

        I couldn’t agree more… that 2 cents is very very very worthwhile… =)

      • criz there are stewards who are pes c, but it depends on their severity of why they downgrade… yeah… i know of a few who are C due to back problems, knee surgery, and yet they are in… mine’s ligament… but i’ve done my upgrade, so with that eliminated, i hope things will become better soon, but u have to start from scratch and hope they don’t dig… why not try to upgrade? it’s crazy, but it’s the what you will do for, for the things u really want in your life right?

      • oh yeah, they took 1 month to reply my email! they usuall reply them during the next intake, if u get in, they can recruit u with the next batch to facilitate entry to their training dates if i’m not wrong… lol! otherwise, it may mean they are super busy!

    • criz… if u have any idea why u are pes c? if u have, be garang to upgrade! it could be that… i went to upgrade, get a spec letter, appealed and now i’m in! send all your documents to SIA with everything intact and explain to them why you probably got rejected… they will hear you out!! fingers cross… if i made it through appeal, you got the chance too! 🙂 don’t give up on your dreams, persistence only will bring you closer to reality!

      • Well said… its just how much you want it…

  18. Dear Kristine/all…

I know that for acceptance, the longer it takes the better our chances are to hear something good from SQ….

But what about rejections, how long after medical check would a letter be sent to us in case of rejections?

Do reply at the earliest, thank you.

    • Hey Marcus,

I guess you probably pass your interview by now ya ?

The letter is usually sent within 2 weeks from your medical, but then again, we can’t say for sure sometimes especially when things gets busy and its the holiday season now.

  19. Dear Kristine,

I had a friend who had got through all the stages and now waiting for the medical results. In her application form, she did not indicate the notification date. She would like to know how long SIA can wait for the successful applicants? Could you advise me?

    Thank you =)

    • errr…

most likely, if she is successful, she should be notified within 2 weeks of the medical check up..

  20. Hey Kristine

Replied at last, thanks. No worries, I called SIA straight and its all good. Apparently they were waiting for my employment pass to be released before they called me. I was too anxious.

  21. Also I ask the person in charge about my employment pass, the person said since I have entered SG previously with a different name ( which Ive declared in the S pass application form and I changed my name in 2005)…..it might take longer, but Ive submitted all the relevant support documents from the GOV of Malaysia in regards to this name change.

Thn today I emailed her to request a change in my joining dates she agreed. Does that mean my employment pass is all good and she’s just waiting for a suitable date to call me for future confirmation?

  22. Hi, regarding the vision in medical check up, do the have a limit? Because I have short sighness which is about 6 , but I wearing contactlense , so will this actually affect my resultt?
    Thx for answer =)

  23. Hi kristine,

I had a ligament operation on my knee 8 years ago. But its all fine now, I even continued playing sports competitively after the surgery. During the medical checkup, the doctor had diagnosed that I’ve fully recovered. Then the nurse requested for my medical report from the hospital that I had my surgery. I’ve check with the hospital, It’ll take about 4 weeks for the report to reach me so that I can send it to the nurse and it cost me around S$100 to retrieve the document.

So my concern is, will SIA fail me because of my surgery? and will they wait for my report? Because 4 weeks is kind of long, since you have mentioned that it usually takes 2 weeks for the results to be out.

Hope to hear from you soon. Thank you.

    d

    • Hi d..

Just be prepared… cos.. anything that is injury or health related.. it may not be good.

Did they tell you to do the follow up or anything ?? I mean.. after getting your documents.. did they tell you how to send to them ?

      • Thanks for the reply kristine.

Oh no, I really hope SIA won’t fail me because of that because I’m really perfectly fine now.. fingers crossed!!

Nope, they did not tell me anything about any follow up. The nurse told me to email/fax her the medical report after I receive it from the hospital. After which, they will proceed on with the checkup and inform SIA.

  24. helo Kristine,

I wanna know whether if having sinus will affect one’s chance to become a flight attendant in SIA?? hope you will enlighten me on this. thank you so much, have a nice day =)

    • erm… I dun think so.. unless its very serious and in your medical records.

I do have a little sinus allergy (i think)… but I get along quite fine when flying.. so.. its not an issue.

  25. Hi Kristine, I went for my medical last week and they found traces of protein when i did my urine test and they repeated the test twice. they requested me to do a detailed urine test but i told them i was having my menstruation at that time so i think it could affect the results. i was told to come back two weeks later to do my test. i went to do a urine test on my own yesterday and my GP told me they detected white blood cells in my urine, no protein. today i went back to do my medical check and i was given clearance, the lady there didnt ask me to do any follow ups. do u think this will affect my chances or results?? will i be rejected based on the previous findings?? pls help!!

    • dear,

i can’t say for sure… you just have to wait for them to call you to let you know the results…

I do apologize as medical results and details was never released due to privicy and confidentiality issues

  26. Hi Kristine,

I just went for my medical check-up on the 24th Sept 2012.

I wrote my availability as ‘immediate’ and I’ve yet to submit a photocopy of my degree certificate because it was too large and I didn’t manage to shrink it in time for submission. I did however bring my original, and she saw it. (Lady said will call me to come down to submit.)

It is Day 2 now, and knowing that I have I wait for 2 weeks for my medical results to be out is really nerve wrecking. Some of my friends got their call within the first 2 days after medical to go down for a second xray (they have mild scoliosis) and I did not receive any call from the clinic. Does that mean I am safe?

Also, regarding the submission of the photocopy of my degree, does it mean that I am pending submission of certs too? And will have to wait longer?

    Thanks!

PS: I sent you a email, but you’ve not replied me yet. Perhaps you’re busy! Sorry if I am annoying I am just extremely worried. 😦

    THANK YOU! x

  27. Hi, I’ve been waiting for 2 weeks and there’s no response and this is the third week.. My availability was taken as may.. Is there anything I can understand from this??

    • Hi dear,

I am sure you would have gotten the call by now. =)

  28. Hi Kristine,

would the ‘2 weeks wait after med check and no rejection letter, then you are probably safe’ be applicable for us outside of singapore? I did my med check in indonesia for SIA indo cabin crew, so I was wondering if it would be the same? Or it would take longer for us foreigners since the results needs to be sent to spore? I am getting anxious and it has been two weeks and no rejection letter yet..

    • I would say you are consider pretty safe. Though theres no guarantee.. but chances are good.

  29. Hi Kristine,

Just wondering if you know if a medical rejection is mentioned in the rejection letter?

I just got my rejection letter today after submitting my NS medical report on saturday (took me 2 weeks to get it). I was downgraded due to flat feet.

Not sure if there is a point in my trying again.

    • Hi Jonathan,

I am sorry to hear that… but no.. the rejection letter wun tell you why you are rejected or the medication condition that got you downgraded.

Apart from the flat feet… any other conditions that you have in the report that causes the downgrade ? As far as I know, they prefer guys without any medical downgrades from the army.

      • Nope, just flat feet. Read the report before I submitted and it seemed pretty standard.

  30. Hi Kristine,
I love reading ur blog! Anyways I tried the recent interview and I pass through everything.. Unfortunately I received the letter.. I was reading some other blog but then they were saying that SIA will blacklist those who receive these letters. Is it true? I really wanna become a crew with SIA. I really don’t understand why am i being rejected as I am perfectly fine and am really disappointed. Am I really blacklisted? Should I even consider to try again?

    Regards,
    S.N.A

    • Hi dear,

they dun exactly blacklist.. but fact is, there is a reason for them to reject yr application. Could be your medical and if its your medical.. then.. the 2nd try, the result will still be the same right ?

Can you recall if anything was declared or brought up during yr medical check up ?

      • Hi Kristine,

Thank you for your prompt reply! Much appreciated ; )
well I did declare of my drug allergy. That’s all. The doc even told me that I was perfectly fine. I have no serious illness.
The thing is I am previously frm MI I flew for 5 years plus and I waited for the internal transfer bt sadly to no avail. So after my contract renewal I decided to quit and go for my dream. But it lead me to a downhill. Am just wondering as both are related companies, I won’t be flying for MI if I hv a medical problem and I would hv failed the medical. If they were to check my records with MI, if its so bad then I won’t be offered the new contract. Am really disappointed, following my dream leads me to quit what I love doing. So nw I still don’t know if I should consider to try again. I don’t even know what to do now.

      • Dear,

I know now its a bit late, but you shouldn’t have quit MI first right ? =/

But your case really is pretty special… you can go try for the interview again, and at the same time, apply for other interviews for other airlines. And dear, if i am not wrong, you can still come back to MI if you choose to… just need to go through the manpower… but all in all, I know SQ is the position you want.

In MI, did you request for the internal transfer ?

  31. Hi kristine. I would like to know if my chances of passing my medical check-up for SIA low as when I was a little kid I had history of asthma. So will I be likely to fail my medical check up? 🙂

    • errr…. do you still have it now ?

haha… if you are afraid… then dun… ‘d’… but if you already recovered and have no occurances any more, actually its ok even if you declare…

oopps… I hope I am not teaching anything bad here…

  32. Hi Kristine,

I’m a Msian and had gone through kebaya and document checking stage, all the Singaporean candidates received a medical slip right after the document check and they’ve went for the medical check up. The interviewer asked me to wait for their email for the medical check up but it’s already 2 weeks after the interview so I feel a bit of nervous now by waiting for the email. Please kindly advise me on this, thank you!

    • Hi moon did u receive email from sia already?
