Common Concerns of Cabin Crew Hopefuls

My dear cabin crew aspirant, I couldn’t help noticing a lot of common questions that have been asked over and over again.. So… i do hope this post will help clear some air and doubts.

Q: Do you need to know how to swim to be a cabin crew ?

At least you have a life jacket

The answer is NO, you dun have to. Note however, that you must be confident in water with a life jacket.

If you are not, then, being a crew may not be the thing for you.

Note that as a crew, you need to perform emergency procedures when time calls for it and one of it is being in the sea.. so.. how can you help others when you yourself are in dire need of help ?

So… while you don’t need to know how to swim, you must however, be confident with water. Then again, if you know swimming, it can be an advantage.

Q: Do I need to have flawless skin to become a cabin crew ??

Again, this has been answered many times over, but I do still get the same question. Well, apparently not everyone is perfect. a little flaw is ok as long as its not visible to the naked eye. This applies especially for scars.

Of course, if it can be hidden, ie, you have a tattoo on your waist , your lower spine etc, its totally fine as they will be covered when you wear or dawn your uniform, ie, kebaya or jacket.

As ladies, of course some minor pimples is ok.. as long as its not those serious outbreaks.. or acne that is like.. making your face really red. If concern however, why not seek out your dermatologist for treatment ? I mean.. we all like to look good right… so.. if not for the interview.. why not for yourself my dears ??

Q: I just pass my SPM/’O’ levels.. can I go for the Interview ?

Ok.. for a start, its one thing I dun recommend. and secondly, SPM or ‘O’ levels is NOT the minimal requirement. If you see properly, O levels must be accompanied with at least 5 credits with a pass in English + relevant work experience. This is the same for SPM… and that is to say.. if you just pass O levels, you are still not qualified for the job.

At least a Diploma..

On a side note, are you sure you want to be a cabin crew with just an O level cert ?? What if after 5 years.. you decide to stop working as a cabin crew because you are getting married or having kids and decide to have a job locally… how do you think your O levels is going to help you ??

This also applies for cabin crew hopefuls who wants to drop their university because of the job… erm.. do think about what I say, because.. its going to impact your future in one way or the other.

On a side note, higher nitec holders, again.. refer to your Os, if you have 5 credit including pass in English language + relavant work exp.

My recommendation is, at least get a diploma or finish up your degree before attempting for the interview. If you are finishing your final year with your University course, then, you can still go for the interview because you have your A levels or diploma already.. which serve as the minimal requirement. After you graduate.. then.. update your certificate for extra money qualification cash.

Extra cash = $200 a month = $2400 a year = $12,000 in 5 years.

oh.. before I go out of point, again, ‘O’ levels or SPM is NOT the minimal requirement without any relevant work experience… so dearies who is at this stage, pls do consider furthering your education first before attempting.

Q: I am pretty “old”… can I be a cabin crew ??

Ok.. this is a very sensitive issue and my views do not represent that of SIA or any other airlines in the industry.. and this is just based on my very own observation and opinion.

Sure you can, but you need to be very outstanding for your application to be considered.

First off… why do you suddenly want to be a crew… and what have you been doing for the past 10 years if being a crew is what you want to be ?? Why didn’t you step forth until now ??

Second, most crews (especially the ones in blue) are young, whereas as you age, you get promoted to become green. Then again.. can you imagine a 40 year old working in blue ?? Err.. what is that going to impact the image of the SIA girl ?? ok.. I know I am going a bit overboard.. but, you get the idea. If you look very young, then, things might just be overlooked…

Third… still.. have you ever wondered as say, an experience 31 year old account manager… now join cabin crew as a freshie… and have to worked for say.. a leading stewardess at age 25… can this new hopeful take it ? will there be friction ?

As you can see.. there are a lot of concerns when it comes to age which, only you cn answer and need to have the interviewers accept and convinced otherwise.

and its not easy you know.. consider that you have a lot of others things to note during the interview..

So.. while it is possible, you need to be very good and my personal opinion is to go before you hit 30.

Q: I am from XXX country, can I become a cabin crew with SIA ?

Sorry to say that SIA is not open for all countries. Maybe in the future, but as of now, the countries that SIA is recruiting are Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, China, Taiwan, Thailand, India.

For more information on the interview dates, please refer to the SIA website or you can use the links provided for you on the right hand side of this blog… pls be a little more hardworking and check them. =)

Wow.. this really is a long post.. hitting almost 1000 words.. keke.. so.. I do hope I helped clear alot of doubts and questions in the air for now.

I’ll try to get more interview tips up in the next few post.

Have a great day !

luv,
kristine

Cabin Crew Secrets

Responses

  1. Dear Kristine,

I know this is a silly question, but I’m just curious, hehe, are cabin crew allowed to read books or magazine during the flight?

    • arr…

technically speaking… no (if you get what i mean) =P

anyway… there is hardly anytime for you to do that.. =)

  2. Hi Kristine,

I am contemplating if I should give up my Uni studies for the upcoming May interview but after reading your post, I thought I should give it a second thought.. 😦

Just wondering, does SIA allow their Cabin crew to study for a Part-Time degree? If yes, are they allowed to take leave during Exam period?

and what if I decided to defer/quit my studies, would it leave a bad impression to the interviewers during the interview?

    Thanks 🙂

    • Hi Cherie,

most crews who further their studies did it after they pass their probation. Ie: to say, they got a diploma.. then go for the interview.. so.. after passing the interview, they go for training (3 months), after at which, they go for flying duties under probation( 6 months), once they pass their probation, then they take up part time studies as it is easier to plan because they can COF if need be for important lessons and dates.

yes.. there are crews who take part time degrees.. but is usually the case after probation.

If you have already started on yr University.. then.. I would recommend you completing it first…

“you don’t say.. nobody will know ya ??” – for yr last question..

  3. Heehee. Alright! Thanks X)

Will heed ur advice and complete my studies first!

  4. Hi Kristine!
Thanks to your awesome manual, I passed the last interview first try! It is so helpful and the whole process was a breeze cause I knew what to do and what to say. I too improvised my self-intro from your intro script and everyone loved it and said it was superb!! (:

    Thank you so much Kristine!

  5. Hi Kristine, may i know how much is the basic salary currently for degree holders?

    • 1500 if I din get it wrong. =)

      • Hi there kristine, you said the basic salary as a cabin crew for a degree holder is only $1500, is that true? As the SIA website states that it might be up to $3500/month, so i thought the basic salary should be at least $2000/month. I hope you can reply to this question as MOM’s new regulation for my nationality (Indonesian) is to get a minimum pay of $2000 to get a SingPass, thanks a lot! 🙂

Another thing, I’ve previously read that you state the ideal BMI for cabin drew is 18-22. I’m kind of underweight and my BMI is around 14-15 where my stature is tall and thin, will that affect the recruitment? Or is it okay as long as I look good in the kebaya and as long as the kebaya covers some minor flaws such as small blemishes on legs? Thanks for your answers! 🙂

      • aha,

dear, after the allowance and IFA, you’ll add up to $3500 =) so.. you dun have to worry about that. The 1500 is only the basic pay.

err.. yes dear… it will be affected… especially if its just 14,15…. I mean.. if its 17.5, you still might stand a chance… so it is better you try to increase the bmi darling…

      • thanks for your answers kristine! what a relief on the salary 🙂

i’ve just checked my BMI again, apparently the other time i calculated it incorrectly as i was using U.S. standard (feet and inches, pounds) and i think i got the measurement units slightly off, i just calculated it again using cm and kg and my BMI is around 16.5, what do you think? my highest BMI ever was only 17.2 and that was in 2007, i’ve lost weight after completing my industrial attachment in 2008 and i tried to gain weight since, but it’s really difficult for my case due to my metabolism and lifestyle

i thought of going to the cabin crew walk-in interview this coming saturday, but being underweight and having some minor blemishes are my main concerns, i just want to know whether these are big problems for the recruitment as you’re the professional, thanks a lot for your help! 🙂

  6. Dear kristine,
Sorry to be asking so many questions! I just need to know if I seem eligible or not before I am gonna give it a shot and purchase your Manuel to prepare. 🙂

-my highest qualifications is O levels and I got 4 As, definitely enough for 5 credits. Did polytechnic halfway until I had to drop out due to some family reasons. Worked in retail and In hotel industry subsequently. Will this be sufficient?

-I’m 162cm but 58kg, is this a big issue? Is the kebaya sizes all very small when they let us try?

Am quite conscious so would like to know if I should give it a shot. I’m really passionate about the service and hospitality industry so… Yup. Very thankful if u can let me know on the above before I plan to prepare myself with your Manuel. Appreciate it!

    Ellie

    • hi dear,

qualification wise, you can certainly give it a shot.. but.. I say, you might want to consider losing some weight before going..

at least try to get it within less than 22…

      • Thanks! I’m losing weight now! 🙂 anyway, I would like to purchase the Manuel. Do you accept bank transfer, and would you mind emailing me with your acct number? Do get back to me asap! Thank you very much..

      • hi dear,

I think I’ve dropped you an email, you might want to check =)

  7. Hi Kristine! Im slowly counting down to December, where I shall attempt the interview of my life for the first time. So right now, im in the midst of preparing myself. By the way, do we need to bring a CV letter down on the day of interview? What they listed on the official website was just the walk in form, certs & IC. Do you think i’ll need to bring a CV letter down just in case? Thanks alot!

    • nope, you don’t need a cv.

You only need to bring whatever is required from them. CV is not included.

  8. Dear Kristine,

is it a must to pass general paper for A level before you can try for the interview? i didnt pass my interview but did well for the rest of my subjects. In additional i do have TOEFL english test result as well and i did pretty well for that.

Will they accept such expectional case?

    Thank you.
Hope to hear from you soon as i am really interested in joining SIA.
    (:

    • Its a requirement… so.. they are pretty strict…

Erm.. how about if you fall back to your “O” levels ?? Did you get a credit for it ?

As for accepting exceptional case.. well.. I am not the management and I dun exactly call the shots. So.. you can try… and see what the management says.. if they allow, then they allow. In the end, it still boils down to them when it comes to special cases. But as of black and white.. its a no.

  9. I’m diploma in nursing ,will should I fill in ?GCE’O’/SPM/GCE’A’/STPM,OR OTHER HIGHER QUALIFICATION

  10. Hi Kristine, I have a tattoo on the back of my neck. It’s a relatively small one. Not the biggy kinds.

I’m having a short hair now, and it covers my tattoo just right. Do you think I will be able to get through the interview?

Or will they require me to tie my hair up?

    • They will require you to lift your hair…

so.. it might be a problem..

  11. Hi Kristen,

Can I ask u sme questions on SIA recruitment

  12. I see. Thanks for the reply Kristine.

So, even if my hair is able to cover the tattoo, my chances are still pretty low right?

  13. This may sound silly but could you pls kindly advice?

I am 30 years old now and married. To be a air stewardess is my DREAM. Due to some reasons I did not try. Is it silly of me to try now…. Its really a DREAM that I want to do…
Will my age and marital status be an issue?

Should I just stop dreaming???? And face e reality…

    Pls advice…

    Thank you

    • How much your dream is worth to you dear ??

If it is really your dream… then… you should know the answer what I am going to say =)

      So, you have 3 scenerios…

      1) Don’t go.. and let this dream be buried forever, don’t ever talk about it and don’t ever think about it…
      2) Go and din make it… you now answered yourself, you know you have a dream and you’ve tried, no regrets even if you question yourself in the future about the “what if”
      3) Go and make it… live your dream and be happy..

Which do you think is more reasonable a a better reality ? Life is short, we have no time to look back and think much about the regrets we have.. but rather, what we can do now to try changing things,

  14. Hi Kristine, I read through most of the comments on your blog about scars but I couldn’t find one which is similar to my case. I have a sunken scar on my right eyebrow. It can be concealed with make-up but it is obvious if I pin up my fringe. Do you think I will be able to make it through the interview if I hide it well?

  15. hi kristine,

i am just standing at a hight of 1.58m & my weight is 57 kg. do you think i still stand a chance? overall, many people say i do not look like the weight i am having. Look plump mayb ? i dunno.. But i am on the top heavy side & have broad shoulders.. do i still stand a chance? tried to lose 2 kgs since i known of the interview, now i am still thinking shld i go n try it out or not…

    any advice from you?

    Thanks (:

    • erm…

to be honest… it might be a problem.. but if you say you dun look your weight, then nonetheless.. go try for it. You never know how things will turn out ya ?

Go = chance.. even if its a little
Don’t Go = No chance at all.. and you might regret in the future

  16. hi, i have a birthmark on my second finger.
it takes up like half of my finger and is red in colour, do i have to remove it before gng for interviews?

  17. hi kristine..
i have a not too obvious scar on my nose… will that make me unfortunate?
and that the prooblem now is i don’t really know my height…as i measure at different places shows different height… some are 156,157,and 158…
and when i measure myself… its only 156/157 but how could a friend of mine who is a bit shorter than me can be 159? its such a problem..as im planning to go for august interview..

    thank u:)

    • for the scar on nose, erm.. since you mentioned that its not too obvious, then, you can still try your luck =)

as for height wise… erm.. you just need to measure lo.. keke.. but if you want, of course you can go to teh interview and get a more accurate reading from them. Who knows, maybe you really are 160 ? =)

      • hi kristine, i just went for mas interview yesterday and i was measured 157 only… so whats my chance for SIA?

      • erm.. at this moment.. its not high dear… since they are not exactly in urgent need of crew

      • hi kristine, SIA now in need of crew? i wish to go… and i just sent my cv to airasia too… i want to go for SIA but im scared ill get disappointed…:(

  18. Dear Kristine,

I would like to know about indonesian education recruitment.
Why does indonesian must have degree to be one of the recruitment. while malaysian and singaporean allowed only to have diploma? Indonesian spent 15 years from kindergarten till high school. plus 2 years diploma.. just curious about it. thanks before for answering this silly question..

    • erm… I do have an idea in mind.. but… i dun think its up to me to say =)

But its just the company’s policy…

sorry.. but i will have to pass that question…

  19. hi Kristine,

i have a friend of mine who only have ‘N” Level qualification, and was in Qatar Airway for the past 3 years with a number of compliment letters from superior and passgeners. Lately, she quitted her job because she want to spend more time in Singapore with her family.

she have went for the SIA interview several times however she didn’t manage to be selected after the forth round.

would like ur advice on whether related aviation experiences and testimonals in previous airline help? Does her N level qualification affect the interview?

    thanks

    • Yes.. the ‘N’ level is a concern…

It does help in a way.. but ultimately, its up to teh company if they are willing to take her in.. because, if they do, it wouldn’t be fair for others right ? and then.. SIA would have to lower their qualification… which… may or may not be good if they want to maintain their “standards”..

  20. Dear Kristine,

I will like to try out the interview …
but I’ve some scar on the leg …
can i still give it a try ?

    • definetly dear.. give it a try IF you really want to be a cabin crew =)

  21. Hi.

Im wearing a braces. Is it a huge disadvantage for the interview or do i have to wait till my braces is off?

  22. Hi Kristine!

i just saw a post regarding braces,i just wanted to confirm if wearing braces will eliminate my chance of being interviewed? cos i suppose i could change my treatment to invisalign which are invisible braces if i do get through.

    • hi dear…

yes.. they do affect your chances. In most cases, they will ask you to come back only after you removed yr braces..

  23. Hi,
There a question I need to ask,if I don’t have an O level. But I got a private diploma cert from PSB(Tourism and Hospitality).Been working for 6 years. And I got a Diploma in Makeup Artistry Cert Can.I still go for the walk in interview?

    • I think yr diploma in Tourism and hosipility will be accepted, but probably not the make up artistry =)

So, yes, if you want, you can go try for the interview =)

  24. hi Kristine, may i know for this upcoming interview on 1st Oct 2011, does it open for other nationalities too?
I am Indonesian currently working in Singapore, but cabin crew has been my dream all the time.

another thing, it’s silly but i need to ask, i’m using contacts, but i have no big eyes, typical narrow Chinese people eyes, but I want to give it a try..
    my weight & height are 59/ 164

Please advise me to give it a try to walk in interview , thank youuu Kristine..

    • hi dear,

from the website and requirements, yes.. it seems like it =)

So.. all nationalities are open to try teh one in singapore. Pls go to the site and look at the requirement for confirmation =)

  25. hi kristine,

I’m a post graduate student, but seeing the world is my passion so I’ll come all the way from indonesia to take this chance.
And here’s the condition i had,
I;m wearing braces, but will be off the end of october, I had a skin scars on leg and arms, and some problem with varises problem..
Is this gonna affect the chance for me? gimme some suggestion. Thanks.

    • yes dear.. its going to affect.

As long as you wear braces.. it will affect. Its better you try for the interview after yr braces is removed.

On a side note, do note that SIA do conduct interviews in indonesia as well.. so.. you dun have to spend money just to come here for the interview =)

For more information, you should check the recruitment notice through SIA website.

      • Okk! but my planning to take 0ff the braces in the 2nd week of october. but the interview is this coming saturday..so shuld i give a try? what do u mean gonna affected? the braces or the varises things? wad do u suggestion me to do?

  26. Arghh, i went to the interview today, i’m one of the four hopefuls that passed round 1 n got into round 2.. The four of us consist of 1 male n 3 female.. The male got through the height n weight test, but the three of us was so shocked that we fail in the height test.. My height should be 159cm, but during the test, it showed i’m only 157cm, n we requested to try to touch the line but got rejected.. Is it the problem of the measure kit? We were so disappointed when they told us “sorry, u didnt meet the requirement, you’re only 156/157”.. Awww… T_T

    • hi dear…

The aircon (bone/muscle contract ?) and you just waking up.. sometimes.. play a part as well..

hmm.. you might want to try growing that 1cm or warming and stretching before going for the interview… but i know drinking water helps and yoga does well in strengthening your back muscles as well..

  27. Dear Kristine,

    Hello~

I am Jenny from Hong Kong.

I am now 30 years old.

I had been working in the service industry since year 1998, and had works for Cathay Pacific at 2007. However, I had been terminated because of the financial crises in year 2009.

It really hurts lots because being a flight attendant is always my dream jobs ~ I had even join a flight attendant diploma course at year 2006 before applying for the jobs…..just to make sure I am well equip and well prepare for the job.

I am now working as a customer service officer in an online bakery shop. It is also my one of my family business. It gives me lots of chance to extend my talent. And also gives me lots of change to learn how to be a leader.

Our business is growing…. And the future seems bright…

However, every night in my dreams… I still dream of the flight attendant jobs,…
And still found myself fascinating with the flight attendant jobs….

    As I have turned 30 last month………

I start question about myself….. What did I really what to do?

If I rejoin the airline industry….. I may have to start everything all over again.
My age is the most concern…… am I too old for that?
At the same time, if I quit the business now…. My family may need to take up my duties..and I feel very sorry if I give them more workload…

If I continue on the cake business…..
I may still dream of being the flight attendant every night… and may keep crying for not having a try…

    Dear Kristine,….

Would you please give me some advice?

Thank you very very much for your help.

Wish you a nice day !

    Your sincerely,

    Jenny

    • Hi Jenny,

at 30.. yes.. it may be very hard for you to rejoin.. not impossible.. but just.. very very hard.

and if you were to ask me.. why give up your business ? Its your sweat and hardwork… and the way its growing right now… you should in fact, capitalize on it and bring it to another level.

My question to you is… no doubt you will have the dreams and flashback of flying.. because.. as I myself think about it, its probabaly one of the best and stress free job in the world..

But then… before i can even give you more advise… let me ask you…

why do you like flying ? The pax ? The friends ? the travel ?

Is there anyway you can substitute that with what you are ding right now ? what about your future ? ie, when ou decide to settle down, get married and have kids… how are you going to carry on flying by then ?

So… think through what I’ve said dear… and if you want, sure… you can always go for the interview again… and start all over… but dun give up your biz… since its online, I am sure you can juggle it as long as you have a computer and internet connection. =)

  28. hi…i’m mohd kamil 26yo from KL..i’m diploma holder in hotel management and had expirience about 5years catering manager…i suffer psoriasis and had little bit scar at arm…can i have the chance to success the interview..? i heard the male candidates should be in business entire?and how about the BMI for male cabin crew…?
can u gives tips for male candidates….?
    thanks…. 🙂

    • erm.. psoriasis… I can’t comment.. cos I am not a medical doctor. =)

But the scar… well.. it depends on where its located.. forearm.. upperarm or wrist area etc.

and yes.. should be in short and pants… preferable tie maybe….

For BMI wise.. well.. I guess as long as you are within the “ideal” range.. which you can check online from google.. if I am not wrong is 21 – 24 ?

  29. Hi Kristine,
I just started my uni studies (since 2 months I started school) and I’m 23 male this year.
I am interested to try out in the upcoming recruitment for the Air Steward position. Say, if I managed to secure a contract, I will withdraw from my school. Will it give a bad impression towards the interviewer if I were to do this? I can’t take the risk of completing my degree first before applying and by then I would have already turn 27 (4 years to complete my degree) and afraid it might be too late. I really have the passion of travelling around the world and meeting new people. It has always been my dream since young of being an Air Steward. I mean, for the sake of my passion and dream, I don’t mind withdrawing from my school. Can you advice me?

    • hmmm….

I can understand that… but.. if you ask me… I really think education is more important… cos.. say… just say la.. you only flew for 2 or 3 years… then… you decide to call it quits..

You’ll be.. say.. 26… and going back to school… and by the time you complete… would be.. 30 ? and its only then you “restart” your career… which.. is not exactly desirable situation to be in.

However, if you really decide to quit…. then.. of course you can.. BUT take up part time when flying..(After your probation)… at least you wun waste any time when you do so. However… this is a promise you must commit to yourself… that You WILL take up part time after you clear probation.. else… like I say.. its not worth..

      • Would it be too old to start trying for the interview at 23 then? 😦 because I will only graduate in the following year. My cousin who’s flying in Jetstar told me it’s too old. sigh.

      • haha… no.. 23 is not too old..

its a good age to go at 23 =)

      • Thanks for the advice. But normally how long would the recruitment process takes? How long till we know the results including the medical check up? For example, if the first day of recruitment is today. 1st, 2nd and 3rd round is held on the first day. Follow which 4th round followed by the next day. Then when will the results be out on the day which we are offered the contract from the day we first went for the interview?

  30. Hey Kristine!

Besides being an avid reader of your blog, I’ve also chanced upon other blogs of (ex-)cabin crews. However the “info” they share are a little more scandalous and often mention about the potential harrassment of female flight attendants. Which got me a little worried..

Can I just ask whats your opinion about this?

    Thank you!

  31. Dear Kristine,
I’d like to hit the walk in interview for SIA Cabin crew this Dec in Singapore. I come from Indonesia. It’s said the registration between 8.30 am to 2pm, so the interview itself ususally starts when? the next day?

Should i go for the walk in interview in singapore or just wait for upcoming interview in Indonesia?

fyi, i’m turning 24 this Nov, is it okay?

    Thank you.

    • hi dear,

      age wise, its ok =)

erm.. you can go for the one in singapore or wait for the next in interview. either way is fine.

Nope.. on the actual day of the registration. So.. be there early.

  32. hi kristen
i have some queries about the education requirement.

    I only have 5 N lvls.
But i’m intending to take up Private Dip with kaplan tourism & hospitality

I’m wondering do they accept my case with just a private Dip but not local polys?

do they look into my N lvls even if i have private dip?

hope to hear ur reply soon!

    • they will take yr highest edu as reference.. so.. just ignore your N levels dear

  33. Hi Kristine!

I am graduating with a Diploma in February. The next interview is on 7 January. Does it qualifies me as a diploma graduate? I feel more confident with a diploma certificate for the interview.

If not, should I need to put down that I will obtain it really soon? Or just use my ‘O’ levels? I have good work experience in a number of places.

Another thing, when they do the skin check, what areas do they check? Just the face and exposed areas (hands, neck etc) or the whole body?

Thanks in advance! Hope to hear from you soon.

    • hi dear,

you can go for the jan interview.. but ultimately, you will not be “confirmed” until you send in your diploma cert.. so.. it can take quite some time. And the period within you summiting yr certs should not be more than 6 months.

And for skin check, they will only check expose areas.

  34. Hi Kristine,

    I want to ask you:
    1. How many times a year does SIA hold interviews for cabin crew recruitment?
    2. If I miss the January 2012 one, when will the next interview be?
    3. And would there be many uni grads applying as well?

Thank you in advance and happy new year!

    • hi dear,

1 – depending on the expansion and economy of the company, currently, its like 6 times a year.
      2 – March ? or late feb
      3 – yes there will be =)

  35. what if i have fake teeth…does that disqualify me from the post?

    • thats a very good question… and first i’ve actually come across.

answer is.. i dun exactly know.. but.. all i can say is, they dun check teeth (except when you smile – not at a dentistry) =P

  36. Hi Kristine, i’m a male Singaporean that is going to ORD in dec this year.

In accordance to the criteria, i have 1 H2 A level pass and a minimun 2 H1 credits (with GP). However i do have minimum 5 O levels credits. Would you recommend that i go for the interview this December?

and by “work experience,” what do they mean?

    thank you 🙂

    • Hi Sam… erm… does that mean you meet the minimal pass for the A levels ?

Cos.. if you do, they will take yr A levels results as compared to the Os. Whichever is higher..

And by work experience, actually, any service, beverage, kitchen work does come into play as well.

  37. Hi babe like to check do sq accept diploma frm professional make up ?
I saw they now accept applicant frm psb diploma. Pls advise thanks

    • hi dear…

from what I know, the diploma has to be academic. Some special diploma.. they do require “confirmation” with the management as of what i hear.

      • Hi babe thanks alot will like to try out but no sure if they accept it 😦

  38. Is it compulsory that to become a cabin crew we should not be married?

    • Nope.. not true.

Just that the perception and how you convince them is the key on that status.

  39. Hi…may I know if I’m wearing braces can I still apply ?

    • Hi dear,

I would prefer u go after yr braces is removed. In any case, you cant fly with yr braces on.

  40. i am an ex cabin crew at Jetstars international and have quite a few working experience but i only have my N Level cert with me, do i still have a chance to get into SIA? im 20 btw and i possesed the positive attitudes and jovial too. will they bypassed by qualifications and give me a chance instead? thanks in advance!

    • Hi dear,

My best advice to you is, at least get a diploma. For academic wise, its a strict criteria

      • hey thanks for the reply and advice! but im currently workin now. so is it like i definitely wont stand a chance. because im thinking of futhering my studies while working with SIA after the probation maybe?

  41. Hi~I just want to find out if it will be ok to apply for SIA cabin crew if I have a tattoo at the back of my shoulder.hope to hear from you soon!thanks!

    • Hi dear… it depends if the kebaya can cover the tattoo. So.. in other words, the positioning of the tattoo. If it cant be seen, then still got chance..

      • Hi Kristine,

I’m 18 this year and I’ve just finished my diploma in Pastry and Baking . I also have my N level certificate with me. I just want to ask If is it ok for me to apply for cabin crew? Hope to hear from you soon!

        Regards,
        Charmaine

      • Hi Charmaine,

Can I check which polytechnic did you graduate from ?

      • Thank you for getting back to me ! I went to the Shatec Institutes. It’s a hospitality school.

        Regards,
        Charmaine

  42. Hi, is BMI an issue for guys? What is the max BMI allowed for a 170cm, 70 kg guy? Is 27 years old considered too old? You may very honest to me. Many thanks

    • Hi Louis, BMI is calculated using the formula. You can google online.

Hmm.. for guys, I think it should be ok bah… I thought most guys usually weigh around that

  43. Hi, Kristine!

I have just passed the one on one interview greatly and the interviewers are quite happy with me. But they have concern on the visible scar I have between my thumb and index finger. the scar is small, but it bulges out a little. So it is pretty obvious.

They told me to remove it and drop them an email once i have to schedule an interview.

But I went to the doctor yesterday and he said that it cant be removed. 😦
How strict is SIA with this kind of scar? The scar is so tiny and can only be seen when I spread my fingers and it is flesh colored. Do I still have a good chance to pass? 😦

    Thank you!

    • hi dear,

frankly speaking, they are pretty strict. especially if it can be seen and noticed. Is there any scar “relief” cream that you can find that’ll help smooth it out… at least not make it so obvious ?

  44. Dear Kristine,

Everyone here has a same dream and so do I. I love flying and I hope to get this job so much. I’ve a question here Kristine please give me an advice. It’s about the my qualification. Unfortunately, I failed my SPM. Then I went to English language centre to improve my English. After that I took a distance learning course with Trinity Guildhall in London as ATCL communication skills in public speaking. It’s diploma with distinction. I’m 25 years old. Do I meet the the requirement?
    Would appreciate it very much.
Hope to hear from you soon.

    • Hi dear,

Is it an academic diploma like the ones you take in polytechnic ? If its just diploma in a single faculty, ie, diploma in cooking, then there could be a problem. But if its an academic diploma, then all is well and fine.

And 25 is ok to go for the interview. Good age. =)

      • Thanks for your replied Kristine. For my case It is a diploma in communication skills only. Does it consider as a single faculty? I think it’s different with polytechnic?

        Regards,
        Emily

      • Hi dear,

for that… its a bit tricky. I remember during my interview.. someone has that as well… and they were put on hold while the interviewers go checked with the management. So…

But then again, you can always go for it as the requirement never clearly state the “diploma”. and since its communication, i would
suppose its also academic bah… like mass comm… if so.. then there is a possibility.

      • Thanks Kristine. I’ll try my best:)

  45. Hi Kristine,I have been reading the comments all along, may I know what’s the ideal diploma to apply for this job?

    • hi dear,

there is no ideal diploma. but as long as its academic, ie, the ones u take in tp, sp, nyp, nyp, rp etc… they are all pretty much accepted. =)

  46. Thank you for your reply!and what are the questions that they usually ask during the interview?

  47. Hey dear Kristine~ it would be great if you can answer a few qns of mine.

    1) I’m currently a Sporean PR (I’ve started studying in spore since Primary 3). If I sign up as SIA cabin crew, will SIA help.me with the renewal of PR?

And will the company help me with the application of citizenship?

    2) May I know what would be a suitable weight for a girl whose height is 167cm?

Look forward to ur reply!! Thank u~~

    • Hi dear,

I am sure your PR can be renew if you got a job with SQ. Then again, I dun think SQ will play any part in helping yr application with citizenship or anything… even the renewal, I think its your own application. Nonetheless, having SIA as an employer can help with the chances =)

  48. I want to become a flight attendant but I have a birthmark on my neck

    • Hey dear,

well.. just go for the interview and test it out. I mean, it may seem obvious to you but it may not to others.

Simply because u are very conscious about it. =) Also, it would depend on what kind of mark it is… obvious / not obvious, color etc so, if unsure, just go test it. You never know till you try =)
