Well, I would like to tell you mine… hee..

As you know, I’ve gotten married this year… so… this festive season, I will be going overseas for a long long trip (3 1/2) weeks for my honeymoon keke. Well, I may not be around to answer your questions within this period… though I will still try to (using hotel internet if they have wireless).

So.. I do apologize if you find me “missing in action”.

But this is not about me… I mean… I am writing this post here to wish each and everyone of you here a very merry christmas. Enjoy this holiday season and go out, have fun… stick to your love ones and appreciate what you have done for the year. Its worth celebrating. =)

Thank you everyone for being here at this blog and supporting me. It is you who make me feel that what I am doing is worth it. To change lives, and fulfil dreams.

(Cabin Crew Secrets – Fulfilling Dreams and Destinies >>> Congratulations !)

While my opinion may not be the “decision”… you can rest assure that its highly unlikley.. and Scoot will employ their own set of cabin crews.

First off, if you have been reading the papers, you will realize that Scoot actually is a separate entity and will be managed and operated separately from SIA. So… if you are having concerns, this should be able to clear your doubt.

In addition to that, Scoot cabin crews are likely to have their own set of uniforms and thus, again, not likley that the crews will be shared from SIA. This is understandable because one is of a “premium” image… and the other.. a “low cost” image.

Then again, what scoot offers much better than another subsidiary like silk air, is that they travel to countires like Europe, Australia and China, thus, allowing you to stay overseas as compared to silk air, which does mostly turnarounds.

So.. this presents a good opportunity for cabin crew hopefuls to choose between SIA and Scoot.

the way Scoot is presenting itself, is that it is a fun and “playful” airline.. while the current SIA image, is the gracious and elegant type. So.. depending on your style, you do have an option of the two.

Pay, benefits and job wise, I won’t know for sure until they release more details.. but, certainly, it means more chances for you to have a chance to fly around.

As budget airline, the service is also less elaborate.. thus.. meaning that the “job scope” wun be as taxing and rush as well. This is one clear advantage for crews.

Come next year, it’ll be more fun… and certainly, more chances to be a crew will be given =)

Side note on this… have you ever consider questions like, What do you think of the introduction of Scoot ? or even, Should Cabin Crews from SIA merged with Scoot ? during the management ? Its certainly worth thinking through.. at least for preparation.

Bald Tress During Winter

Today, the place we are going to visit is Germany…and the city we are going today, is Frankfurt.

Let me tell you that, In Germany… winter can be very very cold… and sometimes, you really don’t wish to go out of the hotel.

I still remember that when i first did Frankfurt, I was like a crazy little girl.. going out sightseeing and traveling out of Frankfurt… however, as the years goes by and especially during wintertime.. I would cuddle in the hotel bed like a hamster during hibernation. keke.

Whats really great about Germany is obviously, the shopping. You can get really cheap LVs over there in the city center.

Trust me.. once touch down.. automatically.. all crews will go there. So.. if you are flying there for the first time, do check with your senior crews.

Duckies at Frozen Pond

The city center is not near to the hotel.. so.. you do need to take a metro downtown.

Another thing to note is the food. A few things to advocate… there is this pizza restaurant… let me tell you.. that the pizza there is heavenly. By far.. the best pizzria I’ve ever went to… and of course.. its what we always call a crew joint. This is because, most crews will go to that particular restaurant to eat their pizzas.. because it really is that good.

If you are there, I do recommend you ordering their spinach… haha.. as the famous saying goes.. once you start.. you can’t stop. And because its ‘greens’, i will not stop you from eating more keke.

Whats also great about Frankfurt is the daily groceries and the chocolates. The things over here are super cheap… I mean.. do you know you can get the vitamin C for $1 Euro ? You know, Rexona is selling for like 10 bucks here in Singapore.. but you can similar items there in Frankfurt for less than 80% of the price here.

Romer at City Center

One of my favourite, the gummy sweets also cost like… 1.25 Eu for a packet… so.. don’t be surprise when you see people start stocking up these goodies to bring back Singapore ^^

When you are here in Germany, one of the things not to be miss.. is their hotdog bread.. called brutwrust. They are different with the ones you buy in Singapore… and when you have them during winter… they taste superb…

Hmm… I realize that I have been talking about food.. hee.. but really… its really that good… especially if you are the kind of person who loves pizzas, cheese and you know, other european food like I do =)

Well.. tourism wise, there really isn’t alot to see here in Frankfurt. what most crews do here is to go to the city center and of course, the pizza joint and some daily stocking up of “dry stores”.

Koln Dom Across the River

If you are the sight seeing kind, then.. maybe, you would like to travel out of Frankfurt to some other places.

I did on a solo basis when I was on my 2nd or 3rd trip there, if I remember correctly. I took a train to Koln to see the famous Koln Dom, which is one of Germany’s most visited landmark.

But one thing to note is… its better to go with someone because… I don’t understand or speak german, thus.. for the first time.. i was standing by the ticket machine taking about 15 minutes just to buy the train ticket lol.

Do note that when you buy the tickets, there are different time slots for different trains as well.. so.. be sure to notice them to prevent getting on the wrong train. (ie, some trains takes 6 hrs, some 2 hrs to go back Frankfurt etc)

A closer look at Koln Dom

The design of the dom is very impressive.. more of a Gothic style dom. Come at night when the light shines.. it gives a very mystic feel..

With that, I’ll wrap up today’s post.For crews always flying to stations.. do note that you can have other choices apart from the city that SQ flies to.. however, do do your homework if you are going out of the station.. because.. you want to make sure you have enough time to come back for your flight the next or next next day hee.

Cabin Crew Secrets – Guide To Getting Pass Your Cabin Crew Interviews

Yes, I am writing this to all my readers and especially for my cabin crew secrets students. Most of you have made it through and got the job of your dreams, still, I do urge you to read this if you do come back here =)

As a cabin crew, sometimes, we do get carried away (.. I mean, what can we do.. with all the shopping temptation at discounted prices). Since we do get paid a reasonable salary, sometimes, we do take things for granted… ie, the next month, we get another 4k plus into our bank account.

While I may sound like a grandmother… lol… but… do save up rigorously and spend your money wisely. Yes, i know the LVs, Chanel and Gucci bags are so much cheaper overseas… and the food and varieties can be pretty sinful… so  it may be hard to maintain that “spending discipline”.

Still, save up. Know what should be spent and what should not. Know your needs and control your wants… although I do recommend a “once in a while indulgence”…

The reason I am writing this post is because, as most of you know, I am getting married.. and the housing, and furniture and the mounting cost of living in Singapore.. can be quite a pinch… and I do hope to help ease your future burden should you come across that life stage.

Some of you may not feel it as it may be your first job… and some of you are still enjoying life as it is and not plan to see that far ahead. – So… its ok.

But still.. spare a minute or 2 thinking how “over spending” is going to affect your future. (ie: When you are getting married – Housing, Renovation, Furniture, Becoming a parent – baby formulas, diapers, clothes, education, Retirement – having money to spend for the next 20 – 30 years without working)

I can still remember that 20 years ago… a plate of Wonton noodles cost just $1.50. Now, it cost about $3 to $3.50. In short, we can’t exactly buy the same thing with the same amount of money.

While we do get paid good money, as a crew, we often get carried away on how we spend our money… so.. I do hope, in any way that you saw this post.. it will serve as a reminder to control them.. so as to build a better, and easier future for you and your family.

And even if you are not flying, wherever you are, this fact and reality still applies =)

As irrelevant as this post is to the cabin crew interview, it will affect you.. and if you are flying, you will know what I mean (The indulgence and all). I do hope this post will change your life for the better (financially), as how CC Secrets help realized the dreams of cabin crew hopefuls.

More Congratulations To The Following CC Secrets Students ^^

Most of the questions and answers are in this blog, so, please, do read through the entire post if possible*, because… these are written from my heart, and directly from my “brain”. If possible, try to think why I’ve written that down and what my “thought process” are.. it’ll help shed a lot of light in your interview, as well as knowing what a cabin crew job does.

Don’t just read for the sake of reading… you’ll learn a lot more when you can start spinning ideas out from my tips and thoughts… that is when you’ll really excel.

Recently, I’ve got a question from one of the readers on cabin crew job, especially its schedule.

Now, before I answer this question, let me just share a thought which, you may want to consider.

Why do you want to be a cabin crew ? and what do you tend to give for the company to employ you ? or.. in a simpler way… what.. can you contribute to the company that’ll help grow or “glorify” Singapore Airlines ?

For hopefuls preparing for the interview… ask yourself this question.. because, its going to set you apart from others.

You know, sometimes, its not about us… sure, we certainly want the best of everything… but before we even start asking for something, what sacrifice can we make or give ? The Airlines is not a charitable organization, they still run with or without you… so.. if you want them to pick you, its important to have that “reason why” they should have you. And no, sometimes, you dun have to exactly say it, but through your performance in the interview, sometimes, they can tell..

So, lets get back to the question on the schedule of the flights.

I would make it a very brief note here so its easy to understand.

The flights are usually divided into 3 different route. Short haul (turn around), Mid haul (usually 1 day), and Long haul.

For long haul flights, after you come back from the flight, you will be given 2 days off in Singapore. Usually, the outstation periods is also about 2 days. ie, You flew to London, and arrive in morning or afternoon and have the rest of the day free. The next day is also usually your free day in London. After at which, you fly back to Singapore the next next morning. After that, given 2 days off in Sin.

That is typically for a long haul flight, can be more, can be less, depending on the station you fly to.

For Mid haul, instead of the 2, just change it to a 1 day, ie, touch down Melbourne in morning, whole day free and next day, fly back to Singapore. Once back to Singapore, given 1 day off.

For short haul, its like a turn around, ie, fly to Guangzhou and back to Singapore on the same day, and after at which, given the next day off in Singapore.

That’s a typical airline schedule, but sometimes, for short haul, there will not be any offs, depending on the flight schedule and if you meet the “minimal rest period” between flights… but.. lets just keep it simple for now. =)

I hope this answer a typical flying schedule for the airline industry… and for those who were wondering if new crews only fly short and mid haul… the answer is, no.. typically, every month, you’ll get a long haul, even if you are new. =)

Before I sign off today’s post… remember what I’ve said in the beginning of this post. Think through again… because, its going to bring you a whole lot clarity when going for your interview.

Once again, Congratulations ! =)

Nothing because it seems so indirectly connected…

Something… because it has everything to do with how we see life and sometimes, take things for granted…

Here’s what I want you to do:

1) Pick up your handphone and dial to your parents..

2) Just… tell them how much you love them…

*If you are at home reading this… just go out.. give your parents a BIG hug… and tell them how thankful you are and how much you love them.

In life… we often take things for granted and live in a life of complacency. But what we don’t know.. is that if we don’t do something about it… when there comes a time where we don’t have a chance to do what we should have done… it will be too late.

So… while its not “common” or just something which you felt weird doing… throw all that thoughts aside.. pick up the phone.. and just do it.

You’ll be glad that you did.

Now… once you did that… I want you to share how it feels here in this blog in the comments… and I may even encourage you to jot down why your parents is the greatest parents… and what they did for you…

hee… Well.. I know some of you are shy and may not say anything… but hear me out a little bit more…

First.. I’ll be glad that you did what I told you.. because… your family ties are strengthened… and you make someone else life or day better… and that person.. is probably someone who gave you unconditional love, raising you up to where you are today…

Second, you just went through what i call a “thought process” when you are trying to answer my question above – “Why your parents are the greatest parents”, which stimulates your intellectual thoughts. Why is this important ? Well.. remember your final management where there is a “discussion” session.. ?

This gives you a first hand experience how is it like… and the more you think.. the easier it is to come out with sensible, powerful and convincing answers as such.

Maybe, some of you may not find this sensible at all… but… think about this:

If you answer is: “Well, because they raise me up, they give me education.. and they are my parents…” obviously.. its “disconnected” and nothing to “shine”

But if you gave examples… and experience on why… and what they did.. ie, “an incident”, then your answers becomes more connected and real… ie, I remember that when I was 8 years old, I was down with a very high fever… etc

That’s how you give a good discussion answer… and that is how you can train your “thought” process… and the more “thought process” you underwent, the better you will perform when it comes to churning out answers for your management discussion section.

So… Do what you need to do… but FIRST.. call… give a big hug… then.. do the homework =P

Congratulations to another set of CC Secrets Students (Dreams do come true – Well done !)

So, today, I’ll just share some insights on my personal experience when it comes to situational questions.

The thing about situational questions is that there really is no right or wrong answers.. and in fact, most of the answers that you and I think of, are probably the same.. its just how you put it across in words.. and how you play around with the situation.

And before I give you a really good example, let me just say.. if you know all the model answers, you wun be needing the cabin crew trainings anyway ya ? So… dun always think about the perfect answer… instead, think of how you can justify your answers with sensibly tactically.

Some time ago, one of my students gave me an example on this question, What if you find a passenger being squash in between 2 very big size passenger and he is feeling very uncomfortable with it ?

So.. what would you do about it ?

First thing first, you know that the passenger is uncomfortable.. and.. the right solution that probably come to your mind is to change seats ya ?

Now… what is the approach then ?

What can you do and how do you approach the situation so that you do not offend any passengers ?

Think… instead of approaching the “Squashed” in between passenger… how about.. approaching the “big size” passenger ? Would that have benefited BOTH parties without offending either one of them ?

So.. you can see.. you know the answer – ie, getting more space…

Its just how you put it across tactically. Remember, a good crew always think on her/his feet and reacts to situation accordingly. The things you say and do… affects how the interview judge you.

Recently, I attended a course or rather.. a seminar. A participant apparently miss the last seminar and thus, no food was catered for her as her food was catered for her in the last seminar.

So… she approached the organizer and asked if she is eligible for the food. Technically speaking, its only fair for her to have her servings after the rest since her fair share wasn’t catered for this seminar.

Do you know what the organiser or helper says to her… ?

No you can’t at the moment… but you can have the “leftovers”…

See how bad that word changes everything ?

If a more sensitive and tactical approach is done… maybe, the seminar attendee wouldn’t be so angry.

What I want to say is this… your choice of words… your explanations and how you tactically maneuver the situation to your advantage (pleasing the passenger without offending any party), is going to add a lot of points in your interview =)

Sure, sometimes, you may not be asked that question and it may turn out very differently from what you have prepared.

Then again, by asking yourself questions, and by answering them through your mind, you are, unconsciously creating a mind frame to preparing and answering questions.

That is to say, now, your brain is actually working, asking yourself questions… and at the same time, answering if it makes sense, if its going to put you in a bad spot… and how you can further improve the answers.

When you do that, you again, unconsciously create “bullet” points that can be plucked out as and when needed during the interview… and obviously, with more bullet points, you can bring your points across more sensibly instead of “speaking for the sake of speaking” and not making sense at all.

Lets just take for example, the recent outburst on the news – SIA Cabin Crew Sleeping Onboard.

What is your take on this issue ?

Can you now separate yourself in opposition and proposition and state your case in both direction ?

Now, think yourself as in the final interview… and the question was, Do you think its appropriate ?

Obviously, the advantage is heading towards the “opposition”, so.. if you were picked the proposition group during the interview.. if you didn’t know before hand, then obviously, your points are not going to be strong…

Still.. for opposition, don’t get too happy… because, in all terms, criticizing and saying is easy, but what else can you do or suggest to ease the proposition is another way that you can impress the interviewers.

The fact that the company actually implemented this surely have their own intention in mind… and so.. while you may not agree, how else can you improve the situation while trending along the line and not focus on criticizing alone ?

For CC Secrets students, I am sure you know where I am coming from because it touches on one of the key points in the taboo section.

So, if you are preparing for your interview, do your homework, ask yourself questions, ask how you can enhance and improve your answers, because ultimately, it is going to affect your performance during your interview.

New CC Students who made it past the interviews. Congratulations !!

This is in fact, a piece of good news to everyone who wants to be a crew with SIA. While the details are not fully known, one thing is for sure.. that that the company is expanding to cope with the ever fierce competition of the aviation industry.

This also means that in the near future, more crews will be recruited to cope with the number of flights.. and this means that in the possible future, you get more opportunities… which is very much similar to the A380 launch.. where crews are in HOT demand.. and you might be in for a once in a lifetime ride to join SIA as a crew.

Another good note is that unlike silk air, its budget flights are going mid – long haul, which also means that you get to have night stops over other stations and countries, just so you are able to get your minimum crew rest, as needed by the aviation control bodies.

It also means that SIA might be going the extra mile for expansion and if they should succeed in gobbling a larger market share in the travel industry, it could also mean a bigger and fatter bonus for the crews.

However, while all is said, I personally feel that the company is trending in dangerous waters, not that it is impossible.. but a detail marketing and business plan should be carefully laid out to earn its place as the premium airline, as in.. the budget sector.

Not solely based on profits, but how it can continue to keep its brand… which is one of the factors that made SIA so successful today.

The company is well known as a premium airline, offering excellent service that are very well emulated and followed by others. In other words, it is SIA that sets the standards for other airlines to follow.

Be it their service or even the crews that are working for the company.

It is a good indication though, that SIA has mentioned that the airline would be a separate entity from its premium fleets but the budget airline would be wholly owned by SIA.

I always believe that a happy crew is always a good crew.. and a happy crew will therefore, give their best and always have that “glow” when working. This again, can be viral and also well seen by the passengers, who in turn, when being served by happy crews, will leave that ever lasting experience with the airline.

You know… I remembered once when I was serving the passengers in YCL… and because the whole EY crew was so bonded and synthesized in terms of working attitude, the whole inflight experience that we delivered was just amazing. I can see all the passengers smiling and enjoying our service and presence… and I even heard them whispering phrases like, “They seemed to be really enjoying their work” to “You know what… these are the best crews I’ve ever flown with..” to “That’s why the crews in SIA are the best around the world”… and at that point… I can’t help but smile secretly in my heart – Not to mention that their words also further motivated me =P

Upon arrival, the passengers bid farewell with amazing words like, “Excellent service.. can’t find it anywhere else…” and those words really make you feel proud to be part of SIA.

So, the question boils down to, when SIA launch its budget airlines… will the service still be able to set the standards of what it has all along be doing ? or… will SIA, instead… follow what other budget airline is currently doing.

If that is so.. it is a new challenge how SIA is going to instill that 5 star “service” factor into the passengers and differentiate their airlines from others.

Will the budget airlines that they will be launching, create a new image of SIA that its predecessors had fought so long and hard to maintain – A World Class Premium Airline.

… or will it finally lose that distinct image that has long attracted its most important passengers… the business travelers…

And with its budget setting, will it mean more stress and less overnight stay overseas for its crews due to the need for the adjustment to the budget airfare…

and if that’s the case, will the crews still harbored that pride as a being a cabin crew with SIA… or will they fall back and start doing their job for the sake of doing it… which in turn, may have dire effects…

While it may mean more room for company expansion, as well as more jobs for cabin crew, it is a challenge that the company will face to “prevent” travelers from mixing the premium and budget airlines and comparing them as a whole… and if so, the standards will need to be measured up.

Well.. its a bold move Singapore Airlines has made… and really, it boils down to how they are going to balance this equation if they want to continue to be the Top 20 most admired company to work for in the world.

More New Success Stories —– (Congratulations, from the bottom of my heart !)

I have no doubt… and really.. no doubt at all that Osaka is my favorite city as compared to Tokyo. Well.. many of you must be wondering why since Tokyo really is a shopper’s heaven.

For shopping wise.. yes.. No doubt Tokyo stands head and shoulder above Osaka.. but I think Osaka does have a mixture of old Japan and and modern japan. Its at a slower pace as compared to Tokyo, and I personally think the food here is just… drop dead delicious.. keke.

The main shopping district is actually around areas such as Shisaibashi and Nipponbashi. If you are walking from the hotel, it will take you about a good 15 – 20 minutes walk.. so.. most of the time.. just take the metro la keke.

Actually.. I wanted to post this Ramen shop, located just 1 “street” beside the busy Shisaibashi shopping area. Opposite this ramen shop sells taco balls.. but that’s not the main point. I think that shop’s name is word “花 丸軒”. It has… by far.. one of the best ramen I’ve ever.. ever eaten. Sinful.. but… really very very good.

Its a sad thing that I lost the main photo of the ramen and the stall.. so I post it here if you want to find the shop. I mean.. Fukuoka is known for its ramen.. but ultimately, after tasting Fukuoka’s ramen and the ramen there in Osaka’s      “花 丸軒”… I think it still beats out Fukuoka’s ramen.

Here is a warning though.. if you were to try it… You’ll never eat the ramen here in Singapore ever again.. its just that good..

Now Shisaibashi obviously, is a long shopping street and everything you want can be found here. From branded goods such as Burberry blue label or LVs or Dior.. wel.. obviously you’ll take the blue label cos you can get LVs and Diors cheaper in Europe anyway.

Lots to eat here in Shisaibashi and before you even enter the shopping street.. the famous “BBQ crab” will certainly catch your nose and make you temped to have….. just a little bite.. keke.. oops…

Apart from shopping, another thing you can do here in Osaka is of course, visit the all famous Universal Studios. Well, its got similar rides here in Osaka and LA’s Universal Studio, butJapan got its unique version as well.. such as the 3D Spiderman ride and its Jurassic Park Drop down.

For stewardess or girls who are afraid of heights.. erm.. none of the rides are scary (except the jurassic park), most of them are 3D and motions… and is meant for all ages. If you were to ask me.. Tokyo’s Disneyland is fun but more for kids. Universal is more or less, towards our age and so.. I do prefer Universal Studios when you compare it to Disneyland.

Travelling to Universal Studio isn’t hard too for all you need is just a single train ride. If you aren’t too sure, you can always ask the conceige from the hotel or get help at the train station.

Other landmarks such as Osaka castle can be visited too.. a place where they house the old relics of the warring states. You will notice that most Japan castles look alike so.. if you have been to one, then.. you don’t need to go to another.. unless of course you are deep into their history. (Fukuoka and Nagoya have their own castle too)

Those who are very awake or younger can of course, travel out of town to Kyoto or even Nara to have a taste of old japan.. where the culture and history really resides.

But seriously.. if you ever have a chance to go to Osaka, be it as a cabin crew or on your own… remember to plan whats important and what you want to do. Time is precious when it comes to japan station as most of the time, you only have 1 day there. And don’t forget to try the Ramen.. keke.. you wun regret it (Gosh.. I sound so greedy… oops… keke).

Ok, I believe somewhere in the blog, I did mention about dressing, but I’ll just shed a little bit more into this. It may be good to reflect on it.

Well, here’s a fact, impression counts and matters !

No matter what you say or do.. first impression matters.

Think about this, if you “fail” in your first impression… how are you going to convince the interviewers to pick you in a span of less than a minute in your introduction ?

Now.. do you agree that it takes alot more to convince someone who doesn’t like you than someone who has already taken a liking on you  ?

Think about people whom you dislike… whatever they say… you probably only take it half heartedly… let alone being convinced by them…

Imagine a guy who dressed very nicely talking to you and one who.. came with un-combed hair, tucked out T-shirt, muddy slippers trying to talk to you… whats the difference like ?

I know i may sound a bit exaggerating but I hope you get the point I am trying to bring across.

First impression matters… we as humans, are affected by it psychologically.. no matter how we try to be as “unbias” as we want to.

Add this to the very very short mass introduction in stage 1… it means and matter even more for it has a direct effect on your chances.

And don’t you agree that knowing how to dress well is a form of skill ? It starts with what you want to portray.. and as a crew… you will be staying in lavish hotels.. so.. dress sense is in a way… something that matters.

So.. it is important to take note of how to dress for certain occassions.

I’ll leave it up to you because there are no hard and fast rules to it and everybody looks different in different attire. So.. as long as you don’t look shabby and too casual in it, you should be fine here.

I would recommend wearing office attire, those you normally wear to work, ie, a blouse with a pants/skirt to be on the safe side, guys shirt/pants w/wo tie is fine.

While there are no fix rule to what you wear as long as you look presentable, there are however, some things you should note about “over-dressing”

Ok.. for a start, guys shouldn’t have jackets and girls shouldn’t wear blazers (Cardigans are fine)

It makes you stand out too much. Before we even continue, if you have been to the interview.. and saw someone wearing as formal as that… what was your first thought ??

I remember mine was… “Wah… what he/she trying to do..”

If you had the same reaction.. do you think the interviewers will think likewise ??

In addition to that, say… you dawn a jacket.. and you caught the attention of the interviewers… and IF it doesn’t actually make the interviewers think like i do.. and your answers do not match “your attire”.. don’t you think its going to give you “lower points” ?

Its like.. you saw someone with a jacket talking to you and the way he presented himself doesn’t exactly match the way he dress because of the “expectation” you had on him based on his attire… your “grading” for him immediately goes down.

Now… if you are a person who aren’t used to dressing so professional as in, wearing a blazer with high heels and looking like a business women.. and you see the rest of the girls around you dressing down (as compared to your standards)… will it affect your confidence ? Will it make you feel uneasy ?? If so.. will it in the end… affect your performance ??

Of course.. there are a lot other “psychological” impact when it comes to over dressing and I could go on and on, but you get what I mean.

Dressing does have a psychological impact on impression and how your interview goes. Remember, you want to dress to give a pleasant impression… but it is also important not to go overboard and become a laughing stock.

Before your interview, know what you want to wear.. test it in front of the mirror and see how you look. Do you look presentable ?

Smile.. and look yourself in the eye… you know you are ready =)

Q: Do you need to know how to swim to be a cabin crew ?

At least you have a life jacket

The answer is NO, you dun have to. Note however, that you must be confident in water with a life jacket.

If you are not, then, being a crew may not be the thing for you.

Note that as a crew, you need to perform emergency procedures when time calls for it and one of it is being in the sea.. so.. how can you help others when you yourself are in dire need of help ?

So… while you don’t need to know how to swim, you must however, be confident with water. Then again, if you know swimming, it can be an advantage.

Q: Do I need to have flawless skin to become a cabin crew ??

Again, this has been answered many times over, but I do still get the same question. Well, apparently not everyone is perfect. a little flaw is ok as long as its not visible to the naked eye. This applies especially for scars.

Of course, if it can be hidden, ie, you have a tattoo on your waist , your lower spine etc, its totally fine as they will be covered when you wear or dawn your uniform, ie, kebaya or jacket.

As ladies, of course some minor pimples is ok.. as long as its not those serious outbreaks.. or acne that is like.. making your face really red. If concern however, why not seek out your dermatologist for treatment ? I mean.. we all like to look good right… so.. if not for the interview.. why not for yourself my dears ??

Q: I just pass my SPM/’O’ levels.. can I go for the Interview ?

Ok.. for a start, its one thing I dun recommend. and secondly, SPM or ‘O’ levels is NOT the minimal requirement. If you see properly, O levels must be accompanied with at least 5 credits with a pass in English + relevant work experience. This is the same for SPM… and that is to say.. if you just pass O levels, you are still not qualified for the job.

At least a Diploma..

On a side note, are you sure you want to be a cabin crew with just an O level cert ?? What if after 5 years.. you decide to stop working as a cabin crew because you are getting married or having kids and decide to have a job locally… how do you think your O levels is going to help you ??

This also applies for cabin crew hopefuls who wants to drop their university because of the job… erm.. do think about what I say, because.. its going to impact your future in one way or the other.

On a side note, higher nitec holders, again.. refer to your Os, if you have 5 credit including pass in English language + relavant work exp.

My recommendation is, at least get a diploma or finish up your degree before attempting for the interview. If you are finishing your final year with your University course, then, you can still go for the interview because you have your A levels or diploma already.. which serve as the minimal requirement. After you graduate.. then.. update your certificate for extra money qualification cash.

Extra cash = $200 a month = $2400 a year = $12,000 in 5 years.

oh.. before I go out of point, again, ‘O’ levels or SPM is NOT the minimal requirement without any relevant work experience… so dearies who is at this stage, pls do consider furthering your education first before attempting.

Q: I am pretty “old”… can I be a cabin crew ??

Ok.. this is a very sensitive issue and my views do not represent that of SIA or any other airlines in the industry.. and this is just based on my very own observation and opinion.

Sure you can, but you need to be very outstanding for your application to be considered.

First off… why do you suddenly want to be a crew… and what have you been doing for the past 10 years if being a crew is what you want to be ?? Why didn’t you step forth until now ??

Second, most crews (especially the ones in blue) are young, whereas as you age, you get promoted to become green. Then again.. can you imagine a 40 year old working in blue ?? Err.. what is that going to impact the image of the SIA girl ?? ok.. I know I am going a bit overboard.. but, you get the idea. If you look very young, then, things might just be overlooked…

Third… still.. have you ever wondered as say, an experience 31 year old account manager… now join cabin crew as a freshie… and have to worked for say.. a leading stewardess at age 25… can this new hopeful take it ? will there be friction ?

As you can see.. there are a lot of concerns when it comes to age which, only you cn answer and need to have the interviewers accept and convinced otherwise.

and its not easy you know.. consider that you have a lot of others things to note during the interview..

So.. while it is possible, you need to be very good and my personal opinion is to go before you hit 30.

Q: I am from XXX country, can I become a cabin crew with SIA ?

Sorry to say that SIA is not open for all countries. Maybe in the future, but as of now, the countries that SIA is recruiting are Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, China, Taiwan, Thailand, India.

Wow.. this really is a long post.. hitting almost 1000 words.. keke.. so.. I do hope I helped clear alot of doubts and questions in the air for now.

Cabin Crew Secrets

Everything else is the same, except an added extra group will be done together.

This also means that the management will have more “choices” to compare and pick from the selection, which is good and bad, depending on your level of competency.

However, don’t be “afraid” or stress out because, if you are good, you are good. And sometimes, all 6 might just go through if they fit the management’s criteria. =)

Another point which I want to remind and update is that from recent feedback, it seems that the kebaya has become slightly more stringent, so.. it is extremely important that you watch your skin and weight, especially for girls since this will be the last obstacles that the girls need to go through. (Not applicable for stewards)

So, apart from preparing for your interviews… do pay some attention to your skin… you know.. sometimes when we get too overwhelm with the preparations, we tend to forget other important details as well… ie, you could be preparing for answers, presentation or even worry about yr attire and what you should wear that day, or how to get rid of yr scar mark.. then again.. we forget the very basics of healthy skin and diet.

Sleep well, diet well and drink plenty of water… plain, clear water dears.. not sodas or sugary drinks.

Watch your diet and try not to take too much oily food before the interview and get some sleep. Remember, you need to look fresh and energetic that day.

I believe all of you have heard of the recent catastrophic event in Japan. It is really very sad and my heart just goes out to all those who lost their loved ones.. their homes… and even the very innocent children, whose smile always brighten up our days… are not spared..

and we.. as human beings… shouldn’t forget about love… its the only thing in this world that makes us human..

Sometimes… we live in a world where everything is a given and as long as things doesn’t happen to us… we took everything for granted. Imagine if we are in the shoes of those who are suffering… when all else is lost… hope is the only thing we can cling on to

and hope… is the only thing that you and I can offer…

Yes… I am seeking your help to offer a ray of light… even if its a slightest bit of hope.. to those in need…

Well.. for the answer below.. some of you might have guessed it and some maybe not.. Answer is Brazil, Sao Paulo.

SIA is flying 3 times a week to Sao Paulo(from 28 Mar onwards)… and for those who will be train in the B777 fleet, hee… get ready for one long trip.

The thing about station being new is pretty cool because the stay is usually pretty long, until they start to cut down on the number of stays and flights there.

Its just like the case with Moscow Houston flight, where when the new station was launch, the stay was pretty long until they trim it down a little. So.. again.. for my new students and cabin crew hopefuls who made it through, hopefully.. you get to stay the long stay in Sao Paulo.

Word of caution, just be careful over there alright… remember.. safety first and always learn to take care of yourself.. travel in groups.. and for guys.. don’t act hero =)

So much nagging… omg… I am like.. becoming an auntie le… keke… still this is based on personal experience… as they always say in Chinese proverb.. “The old ginger is still hotter”… so… pls take my advice =)

Ok, I thought I would share a little bit more today because.. I know.. I have been lazy recently.. keke.

First off, would like to pretty much share a little bit more on the mass introduction because it is the hardest stage of them all and many of the flight attendant hopefuls can’t get pass this killer round

Now… mass intro is a stage which I personally believe is not fair. I mean.. seriously… how can someone get to know you in that short span of 10 minutes, with 1 min dedicated to each of you.

There are some whom really have the potential of being a crew… but gets overwhelm by pressure or even tries too hard, thus.. was eliminated.

Some.. don’t exactly have that crew potential but manage to get through the next round.

Well, for many cabin crew hopefuls who thinks its unfair, then again.. don’t forget there are other filters like 1 to 1 and management that those who does not seem to make it needs to go through. So.. in any case.. there is no need to compare yourself with them.

Instead… think about why you didn’t make it.. could it be your answers ?? I mean.. are you giving them exactly what they ask for ? Is your answer unique… or .. do your answer stand out ?

How about the all important smile ?? Are they really a genuine smile.. or.. do you do it just for the sake of doing it ?

You see… out of the 10 people… there are only 2 interviewers… and if you can’t get them to notice or remember you by… how do you expect you yourself to be selected ? Think about this… if you are the interviewers… and you have been sitting there since 830am… for a start.. maybe.. everyone stands a chance because they are all fresh and energetic..

Come 10am… after hearing like.. 20 to 30 groups of cabin crew candidates… do you think the energy span is still there ? To make things worse… don’t forget.. its a Saturday…

Put yourself in the interviewer’s shoe… how would you feel ?

Worse in the case where you go out of point and go about saying stuff that puts them to sleep… and here they are trying to give you a chance.. burning their saturdays.. and there you are trying to make them more sleepy..

What I want to say is this… there are many ways to make yourself standout (some of  examples you’ll find in my manual)… you just have to think of them and make them your “star” or uniqueness… cos if you can’t make yourself stand out… the interviewers have every right not to notice or pick you to the next stage.

Seriously… think about the cabin crew interview tips that I say here today… don’t just read it and forget about it… because it holds a very valuable key to passing stage 1…

Ok ok, I know it has nothing to do with cabin crew interviews so I won’t go on else all of you may just get bored. On a side note, I promise I will try to reply to all your questions and comments as soon as I can ok ? ^^

Today, lets visit.. err.. oops.. Europe again.., this time to Athens, Greece.

Another destination that SIA flies to.

The beauty about flying to greece is that the flight patterns are usually longer, thus.. meaning more allowances and longer stay. As such, some of the cabin crew, depending on the season and if the sea is choppy, may choose to book a trip down to santorini and makonos, which are both very beautiful island.. especially santorini… Romance at its best !!

At athens, there are also alot of sight seeing places if you choose to go and visit lots of history rich buildings near the central market.

From the hotel, it usually takes about 15 to 20 mins to reach the planka (the central market place) in athens. From the area there, you can buy lots of souvenirs and food. In fact, from the planka area, you can actually see the famous Parthenon.

Food in Greece is generally not too bad especially if you eat in some of the local cafes in planka area.

If you are visiting the parthenon, then, you will need to exit a street before planka with a small road leading straight up to the famous “acropolis”. From there, walk further up and you will arrive at the parthenon.

Again, all is not done here, as the parthenon offers great view around athens (because it is situated in a cliff). From, you can also get a good view of the numerous areas that you can visit, such as the original olympic stadium, temple of zeus and so on.

All within walking distance… (because i did most of the sightseeing here with my fellow fss and fs). We basically walk the entire “must see” monuments in Athens.

Of course, once you are done in Athens, (Most likely you will after your first flight there since the stay is pretty long), as mentioned, you can choose to go to other surrounding islets around greece.

One of course is santorini.. and trust me, a lot of crews will opt to go there is if there is a chance. So.. it is good to tag along – EVEN if its your first time to Greece.. because.. santorini and makonos depends on season whereas Athens can be visited anytime.

Also, if you choose to, you can also take a one day trip to the “not so far” islets around athens… its usually a 2 or 3 island tour where you can cruise around the sea of greece which is beautiful by the way.

For all this to happen, its not exactly very hard because, all you need to do is to go to the conceige and they’ll help you settle everything. Remember to ask your fellow crews along and take lots of photos.^^

Congratulations to member’s and students of CC secrets !! Really appreciate your feedback and shares.

While I am not sure of the latter, but what I am going to say has happened before and I do hope it will not happen to you.

As we all know, facebook is a perfect platform for sharing news and updates about yourself. Sometimes, it can however, act against you.

When you are employed as a cabin crew, I know it is very exciting and you would want to share your roasters and stations of which you will be flying to with your batch mates and friends.. so that you all can arrange meet ups in outstations or even during your off days in Singapore.

However, please do so within yourself and not openly on your facebook wall.

Based on a true story, like all new cabin crews, a probational crew actually shared his roasters and off days on the wall… and because of that, the probational crew was recalled back to the office, thus, given a warning.

As you know, as a probational crew, you can’t afford any mistakes and one such as this can cause your probation to be prolonged for another 3 months or even cause you your job.

So, please refrain from sharing your roaster openly to safeguard yourself once you pass your interview, you never know who is monitoring and seeing your profile…

Likewise, for cabin crew hopefuls, please keep your facebook photos as clean as possible, for you might not know who is looking at them should your application and medical be under pending status.

While I am unsure of the latter, it is always better to be safe than sorry. You don’t want your application to be decline because of some photos you took and posted long time ago. It just isn’t fair for you to have come so far and get denied like this..

So.. if you have them… either please keep your profile private or remove them to be safe =)

Chinese Lunar New Year is going to be over, and I do hope all who are trying for the latest interview in singapore are all geared up for it.

I hereby want to wish you the best of luck, remember… speak with confidence… SMILE a lot until your mouth becomes cramp… and portray that people’s person personality of yours to the best.

Today, let us see where else will you be visiting as a crew and today’s post will be on Cabin Crew lifestyle. hmm… I have mentioned in the previous lifestyle post that I have been showcasing alot of Europe stations.. so.. let us go somewhere different.. somewhere.. exotic… Egypt !!

I am sure everyone has heard of the pyramids and mummies and all, and I for one, have always wanted to visit this mysterious and ancient city in Giza.

Well, you get a chance to do so because SIA flies to Cairo, and the stay is usually pretty long because of the flight patterns, thus, enabling you enough time to do your sight seeing over there.

First stop of course, is to visit the pyramids and if you want to, they also offer a trip down to Alexandria, another city in Egypt, founded by Alexander the Great. Too bad… I did not.. so I can’t show you any pictures of it =(

However, the trip down to the pyramids is a pretty interesting one because on the way, due to the fact that the pyramids is soooo BIG, it feels like it is embedded in the city itself…

When I got a close up view of the pyramid, I was literally in awe because it really is magnificent… and the thing about the pyramid really is that back in the days when technology is not as advance… they manage to get and stack up these big rocks… I mean… its just very amazing.

There, you will see people offering you camel rides and horse rides.. and you can choose to have a ride if you want to. However, a word of caution when you are there is that, NEVER hand over your cameras to the locals take a group picture, because, you will need to tip there to get it back…

It almost feels like as long as they help you do something, you will need to tip. I guess its how they do business.. anyway, camel ride is scary.. because.. the camels are really very tall =P

Of course, near the pyramids, you also get to see the sphinx, which is also one of the icons of Egypt.

The weather over at Cairo is hot.. depending on seasons, but never as bad as Abu Dhabi or Dubai (another 2 countries I will showcase in future post.).. at least that’s how I feel.

Food is very affordable and the hotel is very beautiful. Near the hotel(10 minutes walk).. there is a shopping center where crews will go to for makan… if the weather is not too bad that is =P

So what else can you do that, well.. should you choose to, you can always ask your local guide to bring you to a souvenir shop to get papyrus paintings.

On the average, It cost about $20 – $50, depending on the size of the paintings you want… of course, the bigger the more expensive.. some up to few hundred.

the first time I was there, I did not get them because I feel its a waste of money, but when I visited my friend’s house and saw him frame up a papyrus painting in his living room.. I really regretted not getting them because it looks very beautiful with a long, clear frame.

Luckily, I manage to do a second flight there and bought it keke.

So, when you are flying over as a crew, do consider what you want to get back because this flighty don’t come as often (although many would change if they did before =)).

Look, a cabin crew interview is not an interview to look for “the perfect human being”. That is to say, we do have flaws here and there.. but it is only a matter of if it falls within acceptable range.

A lot of questions I get is about hopefuls and cabin crew wanna be whom, because of this little flaws… prevent them for trying out the job.

Now.. here is my question to you… who is a better judge of if your flaw is acceptable or not ? Yourself or the interviewer ?

Can you then… create beautiful first impressions that makes the interviewer likes you so much that they are willing to close an eye on the flaw ? Certainly you can…

You see.. these are things that you can do… but if because of a single concern and flaw and you prevent yourself from trying out what you want or wish to be.. then.. you aren’t really that “thirsty” to be a crew no..?

So.. my sincere advise is.. go for it dear.. nobody has the right to say you can’t until you yourself says so…

Now.. again.. SIA is not the only airlines in the world. Sure.. it may be the best airline with the best cabin crew(well.. cos I am inside =P) and service, but it may not be the best paid airlines.

There are other very comparable 5 star international airlines such as emirates, Qatar, Ethihad, Cathay Pacific who may not focus and be as strict when it comes to “skin checks” compared to SIA because of the “gracious” singapore girl image. Of course, there are some give and take and you can be sure that professionalism if a more “important” aspect compared to “skin”.

So… your flaws which may not get you through SIA can get you into the doors of these 5 star airlines if you have what it takes to become a flight attendant.

Yes.. you reap the same benefits like travel, high salaries, off days etc etc.. the only difference is probably between home base and uniforms.

What I want to say is, there are alternatives, and there are ways to get around flaws and things as long as you are willing to do something about it.

I’ll give you some other examples, say your education qualification don’t measure up. Well.. you can always get a diploma in 2 – 3 years and then go for the interview again. Sure.. you may not make it.. but now that you are a diploma holder… do you think you can get a higher and better paid job than what you are doing now ?

Now.. a higher qualification also means.. a wider range of jobs and vacancy ya ?

All in all.. its still beneficial to your future =)

How about… you know you are nervous under tensions and am not very confident to speak in public ? Well.. you can always practice your scripts and answer them in front of the mirror or even ask your boyfriend or girlfriend to be the interviewer and you answer accordingly.

Think through the answers and rehearse the best possible answers so that you dun “go blank” when asked..

I am sure this blog has given a lot of information on the possible questions. Now.. here is a very big tip and clue I am giving away on cabin crew interview questions… don’t just focus on the questions. Think deeper through the possible conversational process that will occur during the interview.

The questions are “base”, in a typical interview, we dun keep asking “base” questions… but rather, further digging into what you have just answered and expand from there. So.. think conversational, and you’ll have a much better time and readiness when it comes to answering cabin crew interview questions.

Remember… Things dun happen sitting at home crying and complaining about it. You are responsible for your own future… so.. if you really want to be a cabin crew… do something about it =)

Fact is however, the world is not so perfect… and there will be some who really tries to unnerve your temper, and he video below is a typical one.

Well.. lets address some concerns that I have been receiving over the comments the past 2 weeks.

I do realize that a lot of us don’t have the perfect skin and is really afraid to go try for the interviews. Well… I’ll be really honest here… I have seen a lot of crews without flawless skin. Sure.. you may have a pimple or a little blemishes here.. but.. the key question is, whats your overall presentation ?

After wearing your make up.. can you actually cover these flaws or at least make them not as obvious ? If so.. then put on some light makes up before your interview. It shows your “manners” by presenting the best of yourself when going for cabin crew interviews and meeting others.

You see… sometimes… despite your little flaws, you may still get through because of your overall appearance, the way you present yourself, your stance etc.

Apart from being sociable (smily remember ?), being presentable is also part of the job of a cabin crew =)

So.. don’t worry too much about your skin and afraid not to go… I couldn’t give you an affirmation that your skin wun be a problem.. but I can promise you that there are crews who don’t have the best of skins… and they are flying. What separates them from others is the way they present themselves.

So.. if that is holding you… remember that when you go to try.. no matter how bad your skin or even when your chances stands at 0.01%… it is still higher than not going at all (0%). If you really want it.. you have to go get it.

Another common question is on the teeth issue… well… in all cases.. please have your braces removed before going for the cabin crew interview.

First off, you can’t fly with the braces on and training is only 2 months plus, after at which you will have your SNY flight which you can’t be putting braces… so.. you chances of passing is very much reduced.

Secondly… take someone without braces and someone with braces… compare the smiles… which comes sweeter ? Remember.. first impression matters… so.. it does affect you one way or the other in your flight attendant interview.

Finally… there are also some concerns on the bottom row of teeth… well… first off.. I want to look in the mirror and smile…

Which set of teeth do you really see ? So… while it is important to have a nice set of teeth (both upper and lower), the upper set matters more because it is what shows when you smile.

So.. if your lower set of teeth aren’t as perfect.. don’t worry too much about it too =)

Finally finally… I still want to urge all hopefuls to drink lots of water.. plain water again(one of my secrets for skin conditioning) and have enough rest.

Stress contributes to releasing of oil sebum which can cause outbreaks… and you don’t want that to happen at the very last minute when the interviews are just round the corner. Learn to take care of yourself… that is one of the key to being a cabin crew.

I’ve said it… learn to take care of yourself… its one of the traits of a cabin crew… =)

Don’t restrict yourself… If you know you are the best… there will be other airlines who is open for you… and sometimes.. they might be even better.(Congratulations !)

The main attraction of Paris is that everything is so beautiful… especially at night.. where all the lights shine brightly in the city.

There are many attractions over here in Paris… namely, the famous Effiel Tower, The Notre Dame, Arc de Triomphe, Louvre Museum… and so many many others.

I know I am going to sound bias here… but I just love Paris… because.. there are so many things you can do down here.. shopping, cruising.. champagne tasting… and the food here are pretty delicious as well.. I mean.. the bread.. keke.

Ok ok.. before I get too overwhelm with the description.. lets lay down some “careful” notes here.

If you are flying to Paris or if you are having a holiday there, be careful of strangers.

Yes.. I say again.. be careful of strangers and always go out in a group… especially if you are a first timer or a girl.

Note that there are alot of people who will force you to buy things or even draw your portrait and charge you a high amount of cash for it… Yes.. I was a victim .. boo hoo hoo.. =(

Also note that, some people are just out there to scam your money… especially if you seem like a tourist.. so.. NEVER talk to strangers.. even if they show you a map and ask you for directions.. they are just up to no good.. grrrrr

and one more thing… toilets here are… hard to find.. keke… even if you go into Mac donalds… you need to buy and have a receipt before you can access the toilet. There is a “password” on the receipt !!

Now that I have laid down the warnings, lets discuss about what you can do here.. hee

There are really many sight seeing place.. so.. if you are a first timer here, you can just hang around Paris and discover all the shopping spots and visit all the monuments. Shopping is not cheap.. but you’ll be able to find lots of updated brands and designs that suit your likings.

The metro system is relatively easy to understand and cheap… so.. you can be sure that you can easily travel between places to places. The best part is.. most of the famous monuments have a metro nearby.. so.. you don’t have to walk too far.. lol

While you are at it, sometimes, you can book a cruise down the Seine River and even have a romantic dinner in it.. well.. if you are flying with your bf or husband that is.. be it a couple code flight or just for holiday. everything is Paris is about romance…

If you are alone.. then.. it is not going to be fun.. so.. if you are not a couple.. hee.. go in groups.

You can visit the famous Mona Lisa in the Lourve Museum, you can take book a ticket and go up the effiel tower.. you can stay around the river side and just relax and pinic… =)

And when you are done with Paris… you can actually.. take a train and travel out of the city to other parts of France… which I have done… like visiting the Mont St Michel… I can be pretty adventurous.. but lets just stick to Paris.

So.. when you are in France… what else can you do..? Well.. you can’t afford not to taste their champagne… after all.. only champagne is only produced by the french… so… if you see champagne from States or any parts of the world.. those really are called, sparkling wine.. and not champagne =)

The Cabin Crew Manual

One of the common questions on the cabin crew requirements is on if knowing how to swim is a requirement.

The anwer is no. Its not.

If it is, it would have appear in the requirements note from SIA. I have students who do not know how to swim and is currently flying now.. so.. that is the best “evidence” that you dun need to know how to swim to be a crew.

Of course, if you know how to swim, it is always an added advantage… after all, skill sets are what increases the value of a person. ie, if you know how to speak a 3rd language, ie, Japanese or German or even French, it will give you a better advantage over the others. If you are a chef or even a wine sommelier, again.. you hold a different advantage over the others who do not have that skill set.

So.. I would say, knowing how to swim as a cabin crew is just an advantage.. nothing more nothing less.

There are also many questions on education requirements for a cabin crew.. and I do not know if i have posted my replies in any of the blog post.. but I’ll do it again here.

Always take your highest education qualification as the benchmark. So.. you can be holding an N level or ITE graduate. But then, if your highest is a degree or a diploma, then.. the N level or the ITE cert is not a factor anymore.

Lets take for example you are a PSLE failure.. but after years of hardwork.. you are holding a Masters degree… do you think people will care about your PSLE results ? or do you think they’ll be more concern about your Masters ? =)

I also got a lot of questions on weight issues…

Ok.. Its pretty sensitive but I’ll just say that weight matters. Because its all about image.

So.. as a flight attendant hopeful… your best chance is when you are within the healthy BMI range of your height. For girls, its between 19 – 22 … which I would say.. are within a good range.. since most crews fall within that category.

For guys… slightly under or even better, ideal weight is the preferred choice… if you are “over”… more or less they will not take you in.

So..  I do hope this answer a few of the doubts any cabin crew hopeful have.

But I do have a slight favor that I do hope you understand if i cannot reply on time, some of which is already explain and can be found on the blog post… some are just too “sensitive”… some are pretty rude… which honestly, I choose to ignore( I am human, and I do have feelings and a short temper, be nice… =P )… and some.. because I don’t have the time… but rest assure that I will try my best to get back to you asap whenever possible… so.. do keep them coming.. =)

Lets discuss some cabin crew tips here and hopefully, it’ll get into you so that you perform better for the interview… and for my fellow juniors who has either started flying, having training now.. or waiting to start training… eat these tips because, it’ll help you in one way or the other.

What you say matters… even what you do are seen in the eyes of the public. So… lets put it into an interview prospective, the way you answer the questions… sure, I have mentioned that being confident is one of the key to doing well in the interview… but over confidence leads to cockiness.. which in a way is going to kill your chances. Where does this set in ?

For example, during the cabin crew management stage, when you start having the debate and discussion, during your one on one, where you start to overly express your achievements and how good you are. So.. these are little things you need to be aware of… because ultimately.. during the interview… it boils down to attitude.

For flying… same likewise… the way you communicate with passengers… sensitivity sets in… what can be said and what cannot be said… the way you express them. I believe you will learn this in your training in STC.

The little things you do are being seen by passengers… for example the tone of which you speak to other passengers.. will ultimately set the tone for other passenger’s attitude towards you… and for all the unfairness in the world.. when they have a negative impact on you… faults can be seen everywhere… suddenly… your tone becomes louder, the placements of your hands becomes uncomfortable for them, the way you stand seems aggressive, the way you walk seems wrong, 1 minute of wait becomes a staggering 15 minutes etc.

Same thing likewise for your interview… the moment your attitude, answers or even cockiness gets into the interviewers… no matter how you try to salvage it… your holes and faults are all exposed. Its human nature…

While it may seem pretty scary to take note of so many things during your cabin crew interview… note that this only happens when you have the “Oh I know everything, and I am more than qualified”…

So… the next time you go for your interview, watch the tone, the attitude… and for all the little magic and tricks in the world… Smile… because it helps to cover this little trap of falling into the “bad books” of the interviewers.

The Many Canals of Amsterdam

Ok.. but before we get into that, I’ve also replied to all comments from the past 4 – 5 days… haha.. sorry for the wait… so.. if you’ve previously asked a question or commented, pls check the replies ^^

Now.. back to our SIA cabin crew lifestyle topic..

Amsterdam is almost like Italy’s Venice.. well almost.. but not exactly because of its many dams and canals. It is the largest city in the Netherlands and one of the most beautiful when you visit during the tulip festival… where you’ll see the most colourful flower garden everywhere you go.. If you are planning for a trip there, the season is.. during Mar – May.

Windmill In Amsterdam

So.. what was the first picture when the word “Holland” was mentioned ? Well.. for me.. its the condense milk Dutchlady with the windmill behind.. haha.. so when I first visit Amsterdam… the first thing I went to see.. was.. yup.. you guessed it.. windmills.

Holland is place to lots of windmills… I know it sounds weird.. but… I think if there is ever a ‘live’ windmill you want to see.. see Holland’s original ones.. haha.. the picture on the right is a “dead windmill”.

Of course, visiting windmills is part of a tour package which you can get from the conceige at the hotel, who are friendly enough to help organize the trip for you and of course.. its more fun to go in the group. Other place to visit includes Amsterdam’s very own “small people world” or.. “Xiao Ren Guo“

If you are someone who likes to chill out … you are in at the right place.. the hotel where we put up is just a stone’s throw away from pubs, bars, restaurants… not the very noisy kind.. but the ones that you can sit, talk and relax… and if you are hanging out with your fellow cabin crews.. there is this one place they’ll bring you… I mean.. its where we hang out.. hee.

You can see the food we ordered from the picture on the right… err… I know its half way done =P but I have to warn you.. the portion is just super big… especially the steak and.. oh yes.. the salmon…

Around the area, there are also lots of adult theme shops and something they call “Mxxxx Mxxxxxxxx”… ok.. its not something I want to mention around this blog… but.. it is almost like a common Practice over there in Amsterdam.. though.. its strictly illegal here in Singapore… well.. you’ll know what i am talking about when you are flying there… =) ( So many things I wanted to tell you but I can’t..)

Of course, don’t forget to visit the many museums including Madam Tussauds and the all famous Sex Museum when you are around in Amsterdam, a place that house an extensive collection of erotic paintings, pictures, objects and recordings from different ages and cultures all over the world… Its very very interesting indeed.. =P

I mean.. there are really a lot of things to do around in Amsterdam… so.. feel free to roam around the area. The weather wise is generally very comfortable… of course is colder than in Singapore no doubt.. but is not as “wet” as compared to London’s weather.

If you have a chance to visit Amsterdam or flying there as a cabin crew, I am sure you’ll enjoy your stay there… and.. yes… its one of the all time favorite place for crews.. less the shopping that is =)

I know that many a times, when you passed your cabin crew interview, you become very happy that everything else doesn’t matter. Its a start of a new life, and its a start of an exciting life of travel.

Yes, I have some wonderful students who send me their good news and share them with me.. but not all… lol.. but apart from this… I believe some of the most important people whom you missed out… are the interviewers.

They are the ones whom gave you chances, they are the ones who gave you a job to fly and see the world. And truly, they should be appreciated as well… and if you are reading this, be it if you are my direct student or just a blog reader, I really do hope you understand what I am trying to say.

The management group… maybe, some time down your career or if you ever see them in SIA Training Center, go up and thank them for the chance they gave you… the executives whom interview you… say thank you to them should you see them in STC.. I think they very well deserve it… they too gave you a shot at your dream…

Who else.. ?

During training, who volunteer to do things like notes photocopying, organizing get-togethers, even the trainers who email you extra notes and information…

On board, when your colleges help you with something.. don’t take them for granted… they don’t have to.. but yet they did… the guidance your seniors gave you… again, they don’t have to, but they did.. because by right, you were suppose to operate after yr training… but nonetheless, they helped you out, gave you tips.. understanding that it is your first SNY…

On board… passengers who understand you are busy and had the patience to wait until you get back to them… even small little things like this.. they indeed spared a thought for you..

Outstation, where the guys normally helped out with the heavy laggages we carry… full of our shopping stuffs… poor stewards.. but hey… they don’t have to but they did… some seniors even took the trouble to call and arrange for a group dinner… so to link you or make you feel more comfortable as a group, team..

People love to be appreciated, and its silly to say.. “they know I am thankful”… because they don’t.

Think about who had impacted your life, one way or the other, helped you out even if they don’t have to… even a simple sms of thank you… would give them so much more appreciation about you as a person.

Today… I am really going to open some of my inner thoughts to all of you, and regardless if you are already a cabin crew or a hopeful trying to get in, this will be very helpful…

You know, flying used to be more fun, but nowadays, it seems like the younger crews adopt a different mindset and mentality towards flying… so.. I do hope.. with my post… hopefully, it’ll make flying more fun to you… and maybe, make the whole SIA Cabin Crew experience something to be kept with you for a life time…

Lets review why do you want to be a cabin crew ?

The travel, meeting people and the money… ok.. that’s 3 of the most basic stuff I always hear.. but then… do you really mean what you say ?

You know, i got a student who ask me… “Kristine, is it true that the juniors have to call the seniors for lunch ? Don’t you think its a bit superficial ?”

Initially, it may look that way… but here is what Kristine me think…

Inviting seniors for lunch or dinner is not being superficial at all… its about building working relationship… its about building friendship across the company.

Think about this, do you work better with strangers or do you work better with friends ?

Do you feel more stress or do you feel work is fun when you are working together with friends ? When you are having fun.. do you think your performance will improve ?

When you are having fun.. everything else doesn’t matter.. that’s when flying becomes really fun… and you get to meet friends every day and every where..

In addition.. as a new crew… do you think you can get more tips from the seniors who have been working longer than you… how about sharing gossips..=P or other beauty tips and shopping discounts or even places to go when you are out station ?

You see… just one single lunch.. and you’ll be able to do so much more.

I know I cannot really do much… because its of personal preference, but if you are a cabin crew student, I also do hope you enjoy your time flying, meet more people and friends… and even make the cabin crew community a closely knitted one.

As what we all learn… its always the little thing that counts ^^

Ok ok.. based on the survey… I realize that I have more successful students who made it as a crew that I initially thought I had.. keke.. just that some of you never inform me huh ? So… I am really nearing my 100 cabin crew mark before the end of the year =P

But based on some of the questions, I realize that most cabin crew hopeful who made it after the medical had this question… the long and torturing wait for the results.

Ok ok, here is how the medical wait goes…

Give yourself a month for the wait, if you did not receive a rejection from the company within a month, then.. you are most likely given a slot as a SIA Cabin Crew.

Letter = Rejection

Call = You pass.

Its as simple as that…

Sometimes, some hopefuls will receive a call early because of your “date available”. The earlier you put in your date available, the faster you’ll get a call if you pass your medical.

You see, the training slots are random, meaning, they’ll try to slot you in whichever available slots that is open based on your date available. I suspect that the training classes were not plan in advance, so.. they couldn’t call you in advance to let you now when your training will start.

meaning, if you have certs pending, or if you put your date available like 3 or 2 months later, you most likely will not get a call from them until its near your “date available”.

So.. if you have certificate pending to be summited to them,  you still won’t get a call until all your documents is in place and they can process your training dates.

What I am trying to say is.. don’t get too stress or nervous… thinking about your medical review results. Use the letter as a guage… and if you don’t receive anything within 2 weeks.. you are safe.. 3 weeks.. even safer.. and if until a month later you have not got a rejection letter, then.. most likely your application is pending training dates.. which.. they will call you once its near.

Hope this help solve a lot of misery and impatience… I know too.. because… I waited for a month before I got a call.. and another of my very first student.. waited 6 weeks for the call.. =)

Now that I am feeling slightly better,  I’ll like to share more about the cabin crew interview and how you can go about excelling in them.

So.. before I do carry on… how did your interview went ? I hope this blog has provided enough information to prepare you well for the Interview… because you really need them when it comes to getting the job as a flight attendant.

Now, if you have not got pass your interview this time round, rest assure… there will be some more coming up this year… so.. if being a crew is what you always want… then… dun let your hair down just yet… because the next one may just popped up anytime and you don’t want to be caught empty handed…

and I am sure some of you may have experience that before =)

I’ll just drop a prediction… probably within 2 months time….

The hardest stage in all the cabin crew interview stages is actually round 1… because it is a mass elimination. Now, lets be honest, nobody can know you or if you are suited for the job based on a 1 min intro and a 10 minute meeting. So.. if you are out in this round, don’t get too upset over it…

First impression counts, which is why you need to give your best at this shot. *Meaning, you need to give the interviewers reasons why they should choose you over others. If you don’t, then… what difference is it between you and the rest of the interviewees ?

In other words, why you ? and not A, B, C, D, E, F, G ??

Of course… Worse come to worse… its going to be “choice picking”.. which is what you don’t want the interviewers to do.

Seriously, once you are pass this stage, the rest of the stages can be pretty easy.. if you know how… and you should really take opportunity of the chances.

And sure… I have heard about some cabin crew hopefuls stammer and still get through. What I can say is, the interviewers see them as a potential crew, based.. maybe on looks or even other stuff… so… they wanted to give them a chance to see how far they can go.

But then, it certainly does not mean that they will be able to go through the rest of the filtering like 1 to 1 or even the management.

So.. don’t compare yourself with the rest of the cabin crew hopefuls… you are you.. you want to come in prepared and know what you want. When you compare yourself and put your thoughts into dilemma, you’ll lose focus and sometimes even confuse yourself over whats really important to passing your flight attendant interview.
