I haven’t posted the cabin crew lifestyle pictures for quite some time.. so I thought, why not take this chance to post some of my “proud” photos here again.. hee… I know I know, my pictures are not exactly world class or that artistic… still.. I did try my best ok ? keke
Today, the place we are going to visit is Germany…and the city we are going today, is Frankfurt.
Let me tell you that, In Germany… winter can be very very cold… and sometimes, you really don’t wish to go out of the hotel.
I still remember that when i first did Frankfurt, I was like a crazy little girl.. going out sightseeing and traveling out of Frankfurt… however, as the years goes by and especially during wintertime.. I would cuddle in the hotel bed like a hamster during hibernation. keke.
Whats really great about Germany is obviously, the shopping. You can get really cheap LVs over there in the city center.
Trust me.. once touch down.. automatically.. all crews will go there. So.. if you are flying there for the first time, do check with your senior crews.
The city center is not near to the hotel.. so.. you do need to take a metro downtown.
Another thing to note is the food. A few things to advocate… there is this pizza restaurant… let me tell you.. that the pizza there is heavenly. By far.. the best pizzria I’ve ever went to… and of course.. its what we always call a crew joint. This is because, most crews will go to that particular restaurant to eat their pizzas.. because it really is that good.
If you are there, I do recommend you ordering their spinach… haha.. as the famous saying goes.. once you start.. you can’t stop. And because its ‘greens’, i will not stop you from eating more keke.
Whats also great about Frankfurt is the daily groceries and the chocolates. The things over here are super cheap… I mean.. do you know you can get the vitamin C for $1 Euro ? You know, Rexona is selling for like 10 bucks here in Singapore.. but you can similar items there in Frankfurt for less than 80% of the price here.
One of my favourite, the gummy sweets also cost like… 1.25 Eu for a packet… so.. don’t be surprise when you see people start stocking up these goodies to bring back Singapore ^^
When you are here in Germany, one of the things not to be miss.. is their hotdog bread.. called brutwrust. They are different with the ones you buy in Singapore… and when you have them during winter… they taste superb…
Hmm… I realize that I have been talking about food.. hee.. but really… its really that good… especially if you are the kind of person who loves pizzas, cheese and you know, other european food like I do =)
Well.. tourism wise, there really isn’t alot to see here in Frankfurt. what most crews do here is to go to the city center and of course, the pizza joint and some daily stocking up of “dry stores”.
If you are the sight seeing kind, then.. maybe, you would like to travel out of Frankfurt to some other places.
I did on a solo basis when I was on my 2nd or 3rd trip there, if I remember correctly. I took a train to Koln to see the famous Koln Dom, which is one of Germany’s most visited landmark.
But one thing to note is… its better to go with someone because… I don’t understand or speak german, thus.. for the first time.. i was standing by the ticket machine taking about 15 minutes just to buy the train ticket lol.
Do note that when you buy the tickets, there are different time slots for different trains as well.. so.. be sure to notice them to prevent getting on the wrong train. (ie, some trains takes 6 hrs, some 2 hrs to go back Frankfurt etc)
The design of the dom is very impressive.. more of a Gothic style dom. Come at night when the light shines.. it gives a very mystic feel..
here is an image of Koln Dom, I hope you’ll like it.. and.. hee.. do give a comment or 2 on my photo la.. keke.. some encouragement pls keke.
With that, I’ll wrap up today’s post. For crews always flying to stations.. do note that you can have other choices apart from the city that SQ flies to.. however, do do your homework if you are going out of the station.. because.. you want to make sure you have enough time to come back for your flight the next or next next day hee.
Have a lovely weekend ahead !
luv,
kristine

Hi kristine,
Hope your good (: Just got a few questions.
I’m currently doing a degree and will graduate next July only. Could I still try for the interview in Dec? Since I do have a diploma, or do I have to wait till I graduate next year?
Also, I have a pretty long scar on both sides of my feet (big toe downwards) after going for a bunion surgery, d’you think they are pretty strict on those? And my feet are pretty broad too so I’m not sure if they can fit into the sandals..
Thanks for your help!

nope dear..
Its best you apply 6 months or below… preferably 3 months if you ask me.
July is wayyyy too long..

thanks kris! could i just go to get a feel of what its like though? or are they strict on this? i’d just like to go and get a feeling of what the interviews are like so if i do fail, i can always try again next year when i graduate.
during the kebaya round, does it include the sandals? my major concern is the scars on my feet due to surgery and that my feet are pretty wide – wider than an average women’s.
thanks for your help (:

Hi Kristine,
I’ve this curious question to ask you.
Is it true that if you’re graduated from nursing course, you will have a advantage compare to the others?
Thanks.

Hey Kristine!!
Your blog has been of much help to me!
I would just like to seek your opinion about being a flight stewardess right after my A levels.
Maybe get a degree later on..
Thanks! :>

hmmmm…
Depending on your route in the future. =)
I would always.. always advice to get a degree first… though of course… if you are hardworking enough.. you can always get the job first.. then after your probation, study part time for your degree.
While a lot of discipline is needed, at least you wun exactly waste your time (ie, after flying go study another 2 – 3 years etc) =)

Thank you so much for your kind words.
I’m still sorting out my life now so I’ll come to a decision later on!
Hopefully everything will work out fine.
All the best to you!

Kristine,
I understand the many different allowances we are eligible for – meal, transport, etc. This may be a silly question to ask but when we fly to a certain station, do we get some form of allowance before flying off or does it come in the monthly salary? Sorry to ask but if it comes as a lumpsum monthly, I’d want to save up a little more from now on to facilitate my first few days abroad.
By: starfishtattoo on October 20, 2011

No dear,
you dun get it before the flight… (there are many reasons, ie, IFA, flight delay, etc)
the allowance and salary is given on different days. ie, you’ll get your allowance 2 weeks after your station, whereas the salary is on a fix date =)

Hi Kristine,

hi Kristine,
Since SQ’s last recruitment in Jakarta is last May, and they will conduct another one in Singapore soon, do you think I should wait for the next one in Jakarta or attend the one in Singapore? (the 3rd Dec one)
Thanks a lot!

depending on you dear. either is fine =)
though i do recommend the indonesian one though since the competition is less. as singapore one comes from singapore, malaysia and other parts of the world.. so.. could be stiff

By: kehui on October 28, 2011

hmmm… are they obvious or really serious ?
scars usually dun stand a good chance if they can be seen or very obvious. But its up to the interviewers discretion… but just dun pin too high a hope ya ? but still.. if you dun try,, you will never know..

Hi Kristine.
I’m Shin from Malaysia. I’m currently taking a degree in Japanese language and linguistics. I’m planning to apply for SIA Cabin Crew (Steward) after I graduate and I would like to purchase your guide book. But since I don’t have any credit card, is there any other way for me to buy it?

Hei Kristine, other firms do increase employees’ salary at least once in every financial year, and I’m thinking if SIA cabin crews has this kind increment or not?
And, the advertisement stated ‘Those in the process of completing NS may also apply’. I will be going for NS on January to March next year. Since the next interview session would be on December 2011, what is your advice? Do you think that I should go and try for the interview on Dec, or wait till I am freed from NS? How long does it usually take SIA to respond whether or not we are being offered?
Lastly, do they prefer females with longer hair? Mine is like justin bieber’s infamous mop ;P it’s no difference with boy cut.
All the information is very helpful and encouraging, many many thanks Kristine!
By: WY on November 1, 2011
at 3:46 am
1) yes they do.. but the increment is minimal.
2) yes, you can go apply for the dec one since the wait is less than 6 months.
3) erm… well, there are crews with your style of hair.. but whats more impt is.. if it suits your face and the image you portray my dear =)

Hi Kristine!
If I have a tattoo on my right back, is there a higher chance that I’ll get eliminated during the swimming test stage since the judges/intetviewers will get to see more of our skin?
Regards,
Natalie
By: Natalie on November 2, 2011
at 2:52 am
nope…
there is No swim test anymore my dear.. =)
so.. as long as the tattoo is not exposed and can be cover by clothings. its fine… especially if it can be hidden when wearing a kebaya.
but if its located at a place where, after wearing the kebaya.. can be seen.. then it s a no..

Hey sweetie, I am an ex-crew, stopped flying back in 2008. I’m a fan of yours!
Would like to check with you the name/address of that awesome pizza place again, have clean forgotten.. I do remember the pizza place (and the grocery store where we got crazy cheap/delish chocolates) was walking distance from our hotel.
Many thanks in advance dear =D Cheers!

but gosh.. you flying back to frankfurt again ? I mean.. for holiday or work ?

Hi Kristine
I have been admiring your blog since last year. Can I ask about the manual for the interview , where can I get it? Because I would like to try for the Interview this coming 3rd of December 2011. I have been wanting to go for an interview but I do not have the courage to, people have been telling me i am underweight and does not look pretty enough for SIA, which really upset me so I have decided to give it a try.
Best Regards

and dear… dun let other ppl discourage you on anything.
I mean.. I am sure you can prove them wrong or something.. just need to do what you can do. Going for the interview is free.. so.. go try it out.. do your best. and while this is going on.. as mentioned, do get some weight going by taking more proteins and milk.
I am sure there are a lot of things that are within your control… just dependant on if you want to do it =)

Hello Kristine
Its nice to read your blog and knowing that quite a number of girls made it through the interview, I am sure that you had been a great help to them. Anyway I would like to ask you, beside the height requirement of 158cm, how about the weight? Is there only a standard size for the kebaya? I am planning to lose weight and try for the interview after my A levels so I am around 1 year plus from now. I hope you could advise me on how to go about this as I am not sure like how the kebaya fitting would be. Thanks dear!
By: Ily on November 14, 2011
at 12:48 pm
Dear,
Kebayas have no standard size. Its all tailored made.
but during kebaya fiting, you will try on those that are donated or left behind by promoted crews or ex crews. While you can’t exactoy find the perfect fit.. generally.. if your frame is of ideal size.. it shouldn’t be too much of a problem.
A rough gauge is the BMI below 22 but above 18

Hi Kristine,
I am at my last sem of polytechnic and my classes would end at March 2nd but officially get my cert around mid May. Should i wait longer for the interview or should i give it a shot during next month’s interview?
By: kee on November 15, 2011

yr secondary results.. does it pass the first criteria ??
if yes, then you can go test it out.. after the interview, they will wait for yr poly certs to be handed in before they can confirm you

Good evening, Kristine.
I’m a nineteen year old girl, serving my last semester in Poly. I thought I’d give SIA’s CC interview a try this 3rd December.
I, however, have Vitiligo / white spots on my legs and some pimples and minimal acne scars. My white spots are really visible but I think my acne scars can be concealed with some make-up. I was wondering if I’d stand a chance in qualifying as a CC, especially with my skin issue.
I’d be grateful if you could share with me your views.
By: Nur on November 18, 2011

I’ll be honest dear… it will affect yr chances to qualify… =(

Hi Kristine,
Is SIA really strict on the skin check? Would it help if I wear the nude pantyhose? I do note that the kebaya comes with a long skirt. Perhaps that could help hide my skin problem?

hi kristine,
i was wondering how many times in a year does SIA hold recruitments for air stewardess? and i have a visible scar on my left wrist due to sports injuries does that lower my chances of getting the job?
By: elizebeth tan on January 21, 2012

About 6 times a year. And unfortunately… yes.. it lowers yr chances as long asyou havea visible scar…:(
